Vaio: Pentium 4 or Centrino?
Hello friends:
I go to change my Acer Aspire 1310 (Athlon xp 1800) for a new Sony Vaio.
What processord do you recommend to me?
Intel Pentium 4 2.8ghz or Intel Centrino Pentium Movile 1.6Ghz. ?
The rest of components of the laptop are the same.
Pentium Movile has a cost of 300 eur (near 400$) more than Pentium 4.
What do you recommend?
Thank's.

Go with the P4, unless you need some super powermanagment for your system and long battery life. Centrino's are slower, and do weird things when they shovel data through to try and conserve as much power as possible. A P4 is a desktop processor and will out perform. Plus you'll save some money ;)

But you might run into heating problems, right? I got a DELL P4 desktop CPU at 2.4GHz and I only need to browser, and bang... the fan goes on. So I assume a lot of heat is produced by that (desktop) CPU.

Yup, I got a 1.6ghz centrino and it works just fine. Plus, my laptop is a hell of a lot smaller and lighter than a P4 based one, which is important to me. 13.5" screen, 4lbs including battery and DVD drive :) Oh, and 4 hours battery life.

I usually have it on 5 (I'm not a scratcher) and the cpu usually stays around 50%. No drouputs unless something is happening in the background (like the antivirus updating!).
