I'm new to the site so I'm not sure if this was already mentioned but It looks like Whitelabel needs to breakdown it's Reggae section into Reggae Dancehall Soca and Calypso. I don't remember the name of the song But I was telling a dancehall selector about the site and he pointed out that one of the reggae songs was actually soca. This is big for us Dee Jays that spin carribean music because Dancehall is not soca. and Dancehall is not reggae. Also Trinitee 5:7 is Gospel They are listed under R&B You may want to add a Gospel genre as well if you're going to give out gospel music. I think it's a good idea to have gospel music on the site though, I don't listen to it much but it can help me get a gig with a church

first of all, i would like to mention that i am very thankful for the reggae releases from Vp & Greensleeve records they do a great job however, i notice that we are not gettng all of the tunes from their compilations.i think that it is equally important to promote upcoming artist who are on these compilations but are not as big as others.i feel small name artist deserve promotion as well so..why are we receiving only 1/2 of the songs listed on these reggae compilations to promote?? hmm.. im just curious:)..thanx

Yeah, bigups to everybody for working hard to get these tracks out to us. It is greatly appreciated by this DJ. Hooking up the forums is a good idea too btw.

Seen Jay.
Whitelabel.net are good at pushin the left side of genres, small labels, and new artists, Deffo got to hook up the rest of the tracks for these compilations.
Let us, the tastemakers of the scene, decide what is gold.
How will we know what hits in the club if we can't try the songs out on the people?
Now I understand it might not be possible to put every track on there, but if you did, it would give us an un-biased choice of cuts on the record.
And how can you torture us by listing other tracks on the record or different mixes that we can't download? :P

sorry if this is the wrong thread..

Im confused, these downloads are coming in as 32 kbps? Are these tracks for promoting or what?

I can search Beatport with higher bitrate sample than these with a beautiful interface.

Whitelabel audio files have two audio streams, the regular mp3 one is available in iTunes and all other mp3 players, and the high quality one is a special secret one only Scratch LIVE knows about.

btw, is there a section for suggestions regarding the layout of Serato's Whitelabel format?

- is there a way to navigate and preview/download by genre?

- also, is there a way to have an area to the side that contains links to other artists/songs that are similar or what other members have liked as well (kinda like what iTunes does)

Thanks and props to you all @ Serato and to the Record Labels participating. Please keep putting up new and unknown artists and good old tracks - this really helps us put quality music out there.

Very cool things are happening today with music in the world and with this site. I however do not see a need for such an abundance of promo hip hop. Meaning - not to stop the quantity of hip hop but to arrange more variety and quantity in available genre for the stimulation of other interests that people mite have. I would like to see more dnb and I have friends that would like to see more house and so on. I don't no Im just a consumer. Keep It Real.

Citywide,
There is plenty house, dnb, and bloody hip hop on that site.
Whitelabel just needs a genre divider system thingy.

So I agree with you, however there is what you are looking for.
And if your friends want more house, tell them to show support of those tunes that are there by giving feedback on the site themselves, and not just suck on the teet that provides these free tracks.

Really? To me it just takes up a bunch of unneeded space with the album art and such. The old layout where everything was collapseable (drunk type) seemed much cleaner and easier to navigate. Plus, previewing was a sinch. Maybe I just need time to get used to it.

That and I was seeing a lot of indie electro artists before in the beta and not so much now. What gives?

Yep, that's right. That was a requirement from some record labels, if we allowed 320k playback without the box connected everyone on the internet would be able to download and play their promo tracks for free. The labels only want DJs to promote their tracks.

Could you please let me know... (everyone else feel free to answer these too)

Have you used the "preview all tracks" buttons?

Are you faster or slower at previewing and downloading tracks with the new layout?
At 12:41 AM 6 November 2008
dave wrote

Serato, Support
No I have no technical issues with the new lay out. I just liked how less cluttered it was the way before. Preview and download buttons next to the track. No need for pop ups and such. Just preview, take a quick listen, download and move on. The way it is now, you got the album art which is cool I guess, and then all the tracks available for that artist. Before you had the nifty dropdown menu to keep the workspace limited.

I dunno, I'm just one person who liked the old lay out better
At 9:32 PM 13 November 2008
DJ Sniffles wrote
We appreciate your opinion :D

I find it faster with the new site because it's only two clicks to decide if i want to download something:
1) click preview on the downloads page
2) click download from within the player (or reject if I don't like the track).

Previously it was three or four clicks:
1) click the dropdown to see the tracks on the downloads page
2) click preview
3) click download
4) optionally click pause to stop the preview.

I find the new way even faster the more I check out.

I personally think the new layout is much better. The old one was quite irritating really. The new way is much quicker as you can stack up the tracks to preview and then it just plays one after the other automatically. Also being able to "reject" stuff is strangely satisfying!

Just an idea, but i think it would definatly help in the review area....

I think there should be an area where we can rate each song (like a five star kinda thing) and it would show on the main page. Not only would this bring out some unknown artists with great songs, but i think it would leave people writting reviews, that would have some of the reviews on the artists page. It would be kinda like what iTunes Store has but with ratings for each song since artists usually only release a couple songs here at a time, if not only one. Hope this helps, feel free to email me.

ZESH, running IE6 leaves you more vulnerable on the internet than IE7 does. If you're concerned about viruses and the like, then you're better off with the greater security provided by IE7.

IE6 is on its last days and will be unsupported by Microsoft in not too long. We're focusing our browser support on IE7 and above. I also recommend giving Firefox a try - another browser that has much greater security than IE6.

Some suggestions for the site/format:

Keep: The seperate media player, with buttons to dismiss or download, maybe add a save for later option (like the crate on beatport)

Add:
make the library of available songs searchable by genre and BPM range,
provide the number of downloads for a track or a "star" rating system from the DJs (this will be important if/when whitelabel.net gets to the point where there are dozens of releases per week or day),
add a section for mixes featuring whitelabel tracks (or at least links to external sites),
add dj charts (labels will love it) provided by high profile DJs and/or whitelable users

Adapt: optimize tags etc. for search engines so that whitelabel appears on the first page for searches like "serato mp3," "scratch live download," or similar (more users = more play for whitelabel tracks = more interest from labels = more releases!)
Create more subgenre tags and reduce or eliminate generic tags ("rap" "hip-hop" and "urban" are nearly synonyms; better to add tags for "southern" or "dubstep," "reggaeton," "house," etc.)

Music (I realize this is more label dependent):
More tracks! More instrumentals & acapellas! (Consider releasing these as normal mp3s or wav files; they won't have any sales displaced by distributing acapellas and instrumentals, and the labels would get enhanced promotional exposure, including into different genre markets, by providing these resources to the many djs/remixers/producers using serato).

All in all, keep up the good work! SO much better than dealing with record pools or sorting through piles of terrible promo records.

I am happy that whitelabel exist for us DJ's. I am from the old school of DJing where we had to carry crates of records and tons of equipment to a party or show. Now with the MP3 or say electronic age of music, its all in the palm of your hand (in a since). Downlods are getting expensive and so is buying cd's when you are trying to keep up with latest. With whitelabel its free to download and it offers great music. Like the one other Dj said though, it needs to have more of a variety. I spin everything from A-Z. I dont care, if people want to hear it, I will play it. And it would be nice to get it from one source. High Big Ups to whitelabel...

Really good job with the site.

Is it possible to apply mp3 gain to the SSL 320k mp3? I've tried running mp3gain on .wl files and it only applies the db gain to the 32k file. All my mp3's are gained to 89db, and the .wl files are really hot in my Serato. Is there a fix, or a way that I can adjust the gain of the SSL 320k files?

Many Many Thanks

ZESH, running IE6 leaves you more vulnerable on the internet than IE7 does. If you're concerned about viruses and the like, then you're better off with the greater security provided by IE7.

IE6 is on its last days and will be unsupported by Microsoft in not too long. We're focusing our browser support on IE7 and above. I also recommend giving Firefox a try - another browser that has much greater security than IE6.

Why do Whitelabel.net tracks only play as low quality 32kbit audio?

The Whitelabel.net wl.mp3 files play as high quality 320kbit audio in Scratch Live with Rane hardware attached. In all other mp3 playing programs the files will play as low quality 32kbit audio.

If you are playing a wl.mp3 file in Scratch Live with Rane hardware attached and it is playing as low quality 32kbit audio, then the file may have been damaged by another mp3 editing program. If the high quality audio in your wl.mp3 has been damaged then you will need to redownload the file.

Alternatively, you might be using an old version of Scratch Live which is not able to play Whitelabel.net files. If you are using a version of Scratch Live older than 1.7.4 then you will need to upgrade to the latest version. Scratch Live updates can be downloaded from www.serato.com.

The service is 100% legal to absolutely everyone. Labels will choose which territories they want to send the releases to. In some cases, this is to the US only and the service will limit the release so that only US residents can download it.
Basically, if you can see a release and download the tracks, it's legal. You can play them as many times as you like for promotional purposes. There is no way we would ever put music up illegally.

LOL, @ BUT PLEASE NO MORE TOP 40 GARBAGE

What about the guys who just got scratch live and NEED that Hot Garbage for their clubs and gigs???

Just listen and pass on the top 40 garbage if you hate it.

It took a loooooongg, looooonnnnggg time for Whitelabel to get the hot radio garbage and commercial shit from the major labels BUT that is what makes it "real record pool" that provides music for everyone.

The first 6 months or year of whitelabel was real weak, the major label shit opened doors and eyes and now it is MUCH, MUCH better and usable Music Pool.

It is getting to be on the level of some paid record pools, it definitely came a long way.

.i was reading that the serato mp3 format will not work GOOD QUALITY well for mp3 player but will play GREAT quality on serato software...that's all good and all but please understand that us dj's have to make intro's (32 beat) or whatever and it freakin' sucks having to mix in a instrumental and then scramble to cut in original. If your going to do that then theres no real point of downloading these songs because i can't do crap with it. That's like actually djing with vinyl with no advantage. I'm sure someone has complained about this but i dont have time to search and look. I love your site but it really doesn't make no sense to make a tracklist like if its a freakin' record and then we can't manipulate with the grimey quality. If you guys would make someone put 32 beat intros on these songs that be freakin' awesome. I know you did it in the beginning but you guys might have gotten tired of doing this.

loop function Frankie, check it out sometime. No need for edits. Thank me later.
And WL never made intros to their tracks.
There are plenty of pools that make intros for those djs that "need" them.
Djs have been doing fine for the last 30 years without intros, so I think people can manage with tracks that don't have, need them.
I sure as hell don't need an extra 32 bars!
At 4:01 PM 19 November 2009
Isn't this a pool? And looping is good only when u have a good 16 beat infront of it. When I do radio i like 32s . Looping smaller than 16 beats sounds kinda off to me. And yes I do have other sites but this is already encoded that's the point of me asking this question.

loops are only off if you don't make them "on"
And you can loop one bar, and it will sound fine.

You hate forums because because people correct your mistakes? or because record pools don't offer edited tracks because you can't mix anything with less than 32 bars?
At 10:33 PM 19 November 2009
Alright guys, chill out.

FrankieFromDallas is only asking for functionality to be able to edit Whitelabel tracks. Unfortunately, Frankie, you can't do this and there isn't a plan to allow editing in the future. One of the things you can do is leave feedback on the tracks you like asking labels to create more DJ friendly versions with things like 32 beat intros, extra acapellas and instrumentals.

Sheak is right (although, there's no need to be snarky Sheak), you can use the looping function in Scratch Live or ITCH to help create intros, but if this doesn't work for you, you'll probably need to dig around for tracks with longer intros. Or buy digital versions of them and edit them yourself.

Thanks for the feedback

At 11:43 PM 19 November 2009
No problems, Frankie. We don't have permission from the labels to edit the originals that they put up. Some of the labels put out extended versions, but not all of them. Hopefully, if more DJs tell them that they need extended versions, they'll start doing it more frequently.

Hey D kenny G,
Your saying that the Whitelabel files have bad sound quality? Here's an explanation about the wl.mp3:
Quote:
Why do Whitelabel.net tracks only play as low quality 32kbps audio?

The Whitelabel.net audio files (wl.mp3 files), play as high quality 320kbps audio in Serato Scratch Live with Rane hardware attached or in Serato ITCH with an ITCH controller attached. In all other mp3 playing programs the files will play as low quality 32kbps audio.

If you are playing a wl.mp3 file in Scratch Live with Rane hardware attached, or in Serato ITCH with an ITCH controller attached and it is playing as low quality 32kbps audio, then you may have an old software version. Whitelabel file playback requires at least Scratch Live 1.7.4 or ITCH 1.1. Software updates can be downloaded from www.serato.com.

When you say, they get locked all the time, are you talking about the restricted releases? Or do you mean the waveforms lock up in Scratch Live?
