Using the Denon DN-HS5500 with Scratch LIVE
1 Setup and Connections:
Connect your DN-HS5500 to your Scratch LIVE hardware using the Line outputs on the back of the unit as you would a regular CD player.
(See here for Scratch LIVE connection instructions: scratchlive.net )
The DN-HS5500 has two sets of RCA outputs - If you have selected DECK 1 with the PLATTER SOURCE button, use the red and white DECK 1 Line output connections and vice versa. Ignore the orange DIGITAL output.
2 Obtaining a Scratch LIVE Control Tone:
You now need to obtain a digital copy of the Scratch LIVE control tone.
The fastest and easiest way is to download this from here:
rane.com
Once the download is complete, unzip the file, and you will have a folder containing "scratchlivecontrol.wav". This is your control tone.
Ripping an official Scratch LIVE control CD is another option - either as a .WAV file or as an .MP3. Do this as per your usual CD ripping method - see here for more information on ripping and encoding:
scratchlive.net
3 Transferring the Control Tone to your DN-HS5500:
a)
Now that we have a copy of the Scratch LIVE control tone, we need to copy this to an external USB storage device. Treat the control tone as a normal file - just drag and drop / copy and paste to your USB Hard Drive, USB stick etc.
Once copied, eject the drive safely and plug it into the USB A slot in the back of your DN-HS5500.
Note: Make sure your Hard Drive must be formatted to the FAT32 file system - NTFS/HFS/HFS+ file systems are not supported.
b)
With your USB drive connected, power up the DN-HS5500. A database will automatically be created on your drive the first time you connect it to the DN-HS5500 - you may need to wait a moment while this is happening.
Use the PARAMETERS knob to scroll down and select "File Name", then select and load your Scratch LIVE control tone to the DN-HS5500 deck.
That's it - the control tone is now loaded to the DN-HS5500 and you can now control Scratch LIVE.
4 Scratch LIVE modes
You can use the DN-HS5500 with either Absolute or Relative mode in Scratch LIVE, however if you want to use Scratch LIVE cue points and loops, you will need to be in Relative mode.
