Scratch LIVE version 1.2

Scratch LIVE version 1.2 contains many new features and improvements. You can now search and browse crates, and jump to markers using keyboard shortcuts. The MP3 playback engine has been improved; many types of damaged MP3s can now be played. The Noise Map reader has also been improved, eliminating skips and jumps that some users have reported. The offset start point feature will be useful to those with cue burn, and the Rescan ID3 tags will help to keep your library organized. Pitched BPM is now shown on the virtual deck (provided the BPM tag is filled out).

This release is recommended for all users. To download, click on the links below. To install, run the executable file. You do not need to uninstall any previous version.

Summary of changes since version 1.1

SSL version 1.2 uses a new database format. Your existing database will be automatically upgraded to the new format used in SSL 1.2. This means that when you add tracks, or otherwise make changes to your library in SSL 1.2, those changes won't be seen if you go back to SSL 1.1.

You can now jump to markers using the keyboard shortcut keys 1 - 5 (for the 5 markers on the left deck) and 6 - 0 (for the 5 markers on the right deck. Obviously this only applies to RELative and INTernal modes. You may notice a slight delay in the audio if you are making a big jump within the track, but you can expect to see improvements to this in future versions.

Crates can be sorted by artist, album, BPM, genre etc, or by a user defined order. If you sort a crate by the number column (#), you can drag and drop tracks within the crate to create your own track order. You can sort by any other column, and then return to this custom ordering by sorting on the # column.

Version 1.2 has a new Rescan ID3 tags feature. Tip: if you have removed or altered files outside of SSL, it will not be able to find them. Use rescan ID3 tags to show all the tracks that SSL cannot find - these tracks will show up with red text in the library, and an exclamation mark ! in the status column (the left most column in your library). You can now sort by the status column to group all these tracks together, to remove them from your library, or re-import them.

iTunes integration has been improved. Order of playlists is preserved, and SSL can now handle inconsistencies in the iTunes XML file.

SSL supports a wider range of ID3 tags - it now supports grouping, label (as in record label), and remixer, as well as a wider range of BPM tag variants.

Those of you with cue burn at the beginning of your control records will appreciate the new offset start point, which allows you to move the point at which tracks begin to a position further into the vinyl.

Pitched BPM is displayed on the Virtual Deck. For tracks that don't have any BPM info, the pitch shift percentage is displayed (so if you want to know the speed of the turntable, load a track with no BPM info).

The search keyboard shortcut crtl-f now moves you into the main library if you were browsing a crate, so that you can search your entire collection. If you want to search within the current crate, click in the search field instead.

You can avoid touching your computer altogether by using Vinyl Select to change crates. Once you are in Vinyl Select mode, lift the needle and place it in the lead-out (the space between the Vinyl Select section, and the end of the record). Move the record to scroll through your crates and playlists, and then place the needle back in the Vinyl Select area to choose the song.

Another trick to allow you to hide your computer in the DJ booth - switch back to Absolute mode from Emergency Internal Mode (The automatic change to Internal mode when the needle reaches the end of the record) by placing the needle into the lead-in of the control vinyl.
