BPM grid

Hi,

what do you think of a BPM grid (based on the tracks entered bpm of course)? I would find this usefull in the overview to see in advance when will what happen. If I mix I can then roughly see, okay its like 2 bars until the hook starts, or the break comes in.

BTW I dont know if anyone from you has recognized but in the wav overview there are separators (lines) they are each minute if I am right.. Its not in the manual, but its nice to know :)

You would need some way of setting the grid offset. How about extending a grid forwards and backwards in time from each marker?

Having a grid offset would be cool, though I think that its not really necessary as the bpms are not that accurate that the grid will exactly be on the start of each beat during the whole song. Its helpfull so you can roughly see how long its til the next break, roughly...

I think if we added precision to the bpm tag then you could adjust your bpm by sight to make it line up over the whole track.

Having the grid extend from markers would mean you could have bar/beat information line up correctly since the bar lines will generally not be correct if you simply start the grid at the start of the track.

Maybe combining this with a designated special "start" marker...yeah sounds good :) Or you could comine it somehow with the tempo matching thing (in the top), it also detects the beats and bpms in a way, right? With the help of it, maybe the grid could be automatically alligned.

By "extending a grid forwards and backwards in time" I mean rather than the grid existing throughout the track, it could be centered on each marker and have a finite size both before and after the marker.

Personally I'd like to see as little of these 'enhancements' as possible. I never needed them when playing off vinyl, and I don't feel I need 'em now, not even the waveform display. Of couse with vinyl you can see a break and roughly how long the track's gonna last, but that's it.

If many more of these things are going to be added, I'd like to see a feature that switches the whole interface to 'basic' mode, for less screen clutter and less processor overhead. I mix by ear, and I hear a break coming without needing any kind of visual indication. I don't want to be looking at the screen for anything else than file browsing, and to see how long the track's going to last.

Of course this is personal, but I'd like to see the i/f as basic and stripped-down as possible.

Having all that additional stuff optional would be perfect. I also agree, some of the stuff (which is there right now) I dont need, like the bpm match thing. User configurable GUI is the solution.
