Latency when needle dropping?

Hi.. i just set up my serato and it's really good.

But when i do needle dropping in absolute mode there's always a little break. I use the smallest packet size and got an athlon 3000+ with 512mb ram..

Is that normal?

Daim - I am not sure what you mean by "packet" size? But have you set your USB buffer size to a low setting (say 1 or 2). Check the bottom of page 14 on your manual.

Personally I cannot hear a little break when needle dropping.

Daim, SSLs team is always working on new features etc. And I am pretty confident that it will be improved sooner or later.

They explained it another thread...

Latency should be less than half a second. (and for me I don't notice it at all - but then again I don't scratch).

Another thing you could try is this:

Disable Disc Indexing Service
Right Click Start > Explorer > Right Click Each Disc > Properties
Untick "Allow Indexing Service to index this disc for fast file searching" - this will lead to a message if the option should be applied to all directories. Choose "yes..." and wait, until procedure is finished.

Half a second (500ms) is an age in latency terms.

Yeah, but you don't really require things to be done real fast when needle dropping. It isn't synched with anything else. That's why you need a latency as low as 7 ms when scratching because you're using the crossfader in addition.

Rev you need low latency on needle drops when you do tricks with different areas on your record.

Yeah, I know. But not as low as when scratching. 500 ms is bad. My needle dropping is pretty fast, so it ain't really a problem for me.

i agree, 500 ms on a needle drop isnt much but on a nice technical cut its a LIFETIME!

Yeah, just notice the difference between scratching at the lowest possible setting and the highest. It's really just 20 ms or something...

Exactly. The way the needle dropping is implemented in 1219 its not good enough to do those tricks I talk about.

You know that trick when you got different basstones in different areas of your record and you try to play a melody with switching to different areas?

ah yes, then you would have a slight problem. i just thought you meant in general for finding smaples faster or something.

woohoo!!! this is something that has made me think SSL wasn't quite like vinyl - this lil delay, but if it will be significantly reduced... this will bring SSL closer to perfection

to be honest, i did as an experiment a needle dropping test with a ton, there is a slight delay but for overall useage like finding a point on a record its fine. good to see though that Serato is constantly improving there products performance. AWSOME!
