Has anyone experiemnted with incorporating DMX lighting cues that tie into the signal being sent via SSL so that intelllligent lighting can be syncronized "live" depending on the songs being played?

I am assuming that this would involve some sort of API, or perhaps even <shudder> a VB object which if married up could perhaps use Midi or DMX directly to allow a DJ to literally program lights, fog machines, etc. for every song. Taking this one step farther, (and assuming it is possible) DMX could be used to control visuals (projections) and other pre-programmmed effects.

Pipe dream or reality? Gosh technology has been getting fun.

man i would love to see that set up and running. imagine not having to tell a lighting guy what you want for your sets.

that sounds dope, you could preprogram lighting sequences like the cue points in SSL. Rane would have one crazy ass software all running from one laptop...nice

So... nobody has any experience in this.. or suggestions on the best way to do it? We are hoping to split the time code from the record and somehow tie it to the song index... but we wre hoping somebody would have done this already.

Don't any of you "wedding DJs" (not meaning this as a negative term) ever need to coordinate music and lights???

I know the club guys will have a lighing engineer in the booth, but do you just rely on them to get it right? (they are usually 22 years old and run the same sequences that the guy before them used.

As a perfectionist in every way, I just assumed that this would be a function that would appeal to most serious DJs.

its a great idea but i dont know how to so it. it would be nice to have set light routines for a set. if im dropping a reggae set i run with the mirror ball and strobes for a bit then some robo scans but i do it all myself. manuially. i would love to just play the track and run with it.
