XLR Cables

I was at a gig and found out a couple of my XLR cables died on me and I'm in the market to purchase new quality cables.

I did a search and I found one person recommending Mogami...I was also doing some research and found that Neutrik connectors are supposedly the best. What do you guys recommend as far as purchasing XLR cables?

Thanks!

I'm buying bulk Mogami cable and bulk Neutrik connectors and making my own before I buy another premade XLR cable

Mogami is the Monster Cable scam of pro-audio. Just find decent cables with either Neutrik or Switchcraft ends on them and you'll be fine. I make my own, but I recommend Parts Express www.parts-express.com

every time I help with a stage crew and I wrap a bunch of XLRs. The ones I pick up and say "this is the kind of cable I want" I look at the sleeve of the cable and it usually says Mogami. They can be more expensive, but I found some great deals on ebay yesterday. Buying in bulk and making your own can come out cheaper than any XLRs.

Bonus is that you can get the Mogami cable in different colors

I use livewire and they have never failed me. They're not expensive or cheap. I think they're priced right.

I wouldn't buy expensive cables... but at the same time, I won't buy cables from Radio Shack. lol

Who did you buy from and what did you search for on Ebay?

I was thinking about getting cables from Monoprice as all of their cables carry lifetime warranties. I've bought audio and video cable from them but not XLRs. Does anybody have experience with their XLR cables?

this guy has a lot of stuff up and sells bulk.

I can buy bulk from distributors, but I don't have web links for those hook ups.

I use the cheap $14 XLRs right next to the checkout register at GC and they suck. You'd think by the time I've had 5 die on me that I would have learned my lesson.... I normally need 4 cables to hook everything up. But I always have to have a few spare ones too because they can (and will) die at any time.

I think I better start looking for some quality cables too. =P

Best budget cables in the pro sound world. Google them for reviews if you'd like, or read up on prosoundweb.com/forums

They're the best connectors on the market, the locking mechanism is much stronger than most other connections.

I think Mogami's might be a bit of an overkill in the Dj world, however in the studio they're highly recommended. Especially for the patch bay, you can buy the cheapos and have a big floppy mess all overlapping each other, having to replace cables all the time because they can't withstand constantly being pugged in, plugged out... or you can have strong cables, standing straight up for a less messy bay and sturdier cable altogether.
