my semi-review:
Platter: Truthfully, cause it doesn't spin takes on more of the controller feel, that combined with the fact that you have to press buttons on top of vinyl? it just doesnt make sense to me.
Also, the fader is really unrealistic it doesn't cut, as you and I would consider "cutting", and your scratches are really unrealistic the only way you really use the fader for is from going from left deck to right deck. It is basically a regular controller with a scratchable platter and a fader.
It really is the same thing as guitar hero was to the guitar, only for DJ's. Just think about a real guitar, and then compare that to a guitar hero guitar, then compare that with you DJ set-up, and it is about the same.
I think it would be way more fun if the platter spun, and fader could do more cool things. my 2 cents. Also, I would rather be playing Modern Warfare 2, so this game is basically just sitting at our house...

EVeryone that's played it that's not a DJ said they like it..not love it like GH... but it's def not worth the price point... and then the gold edition?? RIDICULOUS

I think a lot of people here are missing the point. Playing DJ Hero, and expecting it to mimic the look and feel of real djing is like playing Guitar Hero, and somehow feeling like it's mastery would equate you to Slash. If you started playing the game and expected it to be just like a 1200 and your 57, you're probably suffering from some level of retardation. Don't breed.

Yeah. A guy I know personally asked me, "Have you played DJ Hero yet?!! I was at Best Buy for 2 hours and I couldn't get off of it!"
I said no. It looks okay. It could probably be fun. But why would I spend money to play that when I have a real $6000 DJ setup at home and I play whatever songs/videos I want! Lol

There are some really good and creative mash-ups on the game. He probably means try reproducing similar mash-ups on your actual dj equipment. Personally I hated the game, but my non dj friends loved it. They were doing really good, but I couldn't get the hang of it. It's nothing like being a real dj, but the music is awesome.

I bought it today... Its pretty fun if you set your expectations low.
I put it on medium mode from the very beginning so it would feel as real as possible.... and it doesn't... but it's still challenging and fun. The most annoying thing is the fader, because it "snaps" to the center... so if you're not perfectly dead center on the fader, you lose points...
All in all, it's good... you just have to expect that it won't be like "real" dj equipment. Most DJ's should be able to pick it up pretty quickly.

There is just something wrong about it. I am glad some peeps are getting paid but I have no interest in it. Wrong, just wrong.

I played the demo and found the Gwen Stefani/Rick James mashup thing actually a bit more difficult than real djing. Fun & frustrating at the same time.
My brother (41) just received it as a xmas gift from his girlfriend. I think I'll be stopping by to visit more often now.

As a GAME, it's not bad. But there is no comparison to DJ'ing with real equipment - actually no comparison to DJ'ing with any equipment - even American Audio 'DJ in a Box' stuff.
The problem is that people think it's a replacement for DJ'ing. It's not. Some of the 'movements' are similar, just like guitar hero has some movements in common with playing a guitar.
But here's the real difference - when you DJ you CREATE. You do things to manipulate the music.
In DJ Hero you're REACTING. The game tells you what movements to make and you mimic them in hopes of getting 'points'.
The art of 'creating' is missing from DJ Hero and Guitar Hero.... and that's the key element of difference. Those who compare it to DJ'ing will become frustrated and downplay it because you can't CREATE. Those who view it as a game, something you react to in order to gain points, or meet a 'goal' will like it.

It's a game... that is it... if you look at it as a GAME, you will have fun playing it as a DJ.
The most annoying thing happened today.... There's a Jazzy Jeff set where you do his infamous "Rock the Bells" set... and the record movements that the song is making is not what you KNOW is happening to the record. So you have to stupidy hold the button and baby scratch while all these dope scratches are happening.. Now i know all of us scratch DJ's have tried to mimic Jazzy Jeff's sets... so when you're hearing it on DJ Hero, by habit you will try to do the real thing.

Before actually playing the game, I didn't think it would be fun at all. Went to Best Buy, tried it out and actually had a lot of fun playing it. You just gotta remember that it's just a video game and really wasn't made to capture the real feeling of DJing, contrary to what Activision was probably going for, heh heh.
