Only approx 45 mins of each live set will record in Serato using SL3 box (although in the Recorded crate it states that each recording length is 110:15:02 to be exact). How do I extend it so that it will record the entire 2 hour set?

Hi DJ MAC com au,

Where are you seeing that the recording is only 45 mins long? Note that recording files are automatically split when the recording exceeds 3 hours (16-bit) or 1 hour 50 minutes (24-bit), so possibly you're looking at the second half of the split mix?

Hi Michael, thanks for responding.

When the file is exported to my desktop from my laptop and imported into CoolEditPro or any other music editing programing, only a 45 min (approx) recording is retrieved.

I have also attempted to play the mix through the internal off-line music player built into Serato (noting that the track length states that the recording is for in excess of 110 minutes) however, the recording finishes mid-song at exactly the same place as the 45 minute mix imported onto my desktop. This is particularly strange because the recording starts at -110 mins and works all the way down to 0, but in reality has only played the same 45 minute mix.

I have uploaded the 2 files to a media sharing website for you to access:

Set 1 (set went for 4 hours): www.megaupload.com

Set 2 (Set went for 2 hours): www.megaupload.com

Something else which was odd was that when I finished performing, the recording indicator still showed that it was recording, but none of the music played after the first 45 mins of the set appears on the audio file.

Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated!

DJ Mac

Michael, are you able to help me with this problem?
At 11:21 AM 18 November 2009
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you!

I've taken a look at those files and they show in my Scratch Live library as being 48 mins and 45 mins in length. If you re-analyze these files do they then display the correct length in Scratch Live?

How much free space do you have on your internal hard drive?

Also can you please give me the specs of your computer?

All good ichael, thanks.

Okay. I reanalyzed the file in Serato and now I can get the entire mix to play in the internal offline seato player. However, when I re-upload that fle to my PC desktop and open the file in Cool Edit Pro - I still only get the 48 min shortened mix from that file. Weird!

My laptop is a white MacBook upgraded to it's maximum specs and is purely dedicated for Serato use.

My desktop/studio computer is a PC with mirrored hard-drives, heaps of space and mor than enough RAM.

Hey Michael, I tried again last night to record a set at the club. Same result - it only recorded a 48 min mix out of the 2.5 hr set I did. Even when I rebuilt the overviews it was still only 48 mins approx.

If you look in the ScratchLIVE -> Recording temp folder are any of your recordings in there?

Hey Michael, yes the second half of that set was stored in that folder! That solves that mystery - thanks!

That's great :) Are you giving your recordings a filename and clicking the save icon in Scratch Live when you've finished recording?

I've done that once - as in named the set and saved it. The other times I've forgotten because of the mad rush in trying to change over DJs and plug in a new SL1 or SL3 one channel at a time so that the music doesn't stop. By the end of the set and in that rush I usually forget that I'm actually recording.

Ah ok, that will be why the other half of the recording is in the Recording temp folder. If you are able to name and save your set all the files will be in the Recording folder :)

I tried to record a set on Friday night just gone too - again I forgot to name and save the file. The first 48 mins appeared in the Recording file and the last 12 mins appeared in the the temp file. I'm not sure what happened to the rest of the recording?

Is there somewhere in settings that I need to adjust something so that more than just that first 48 mins is recorded?

If you aren't saving your recordings what happens is:

* Scratch Live creates a file called "Serato Recording 1.aif" in the "Recording temp" folder.
* If the recording reaches its maximum file size (approx. 1.91GB) Scratch Live will move the "Serato Recording 1.aif" file to the "Recorded" folder and create a new file called "Serato Recording 2.aif" in the "Recording temp" folder.
* The longer you record, the more files will be moved and created (each time the number in filename will increase by one).

So in your current example:
Quote:
The first 48 mins appeared in the Recording file and the last 12 mins appeared in the the temp file

What was the filename of the first and last parts of the recording? If they, for example, were called "Serato Recording 1" and "3" can you see "2" in the "Recorded" folder also?

Hey Michael. I gave it another try this past weekend. I named the file from the start of the recording and hit save at the end of the set. It ended up being saved over 2 files in the recording file and plays fine in the Serato offline media player - as in the 2 files meet up to make it the complete set.

What I don't understand is that when I transfer the file accross to my pc and import it into cool edit pro the first file only appears as 48mins long, whereas in Serato it is 110 mins long. The smaller second fil is the same.

There is no other media files in either the recording or temp recording folder. It's clearly the same file - but why will it only play completely in the Serato Media Player and not eternally in another program?

Thanks

Just to double check - it's definitely the same file? If you give the recording a name that will be its filename also.
