Just a little warning Akai LPD8 Crashes VSL

Not sure why it crashes vsl, but i just bought the Akai LPD8 today at guitar center. Its a great piece of kit but the only reason i wanted it was to control changing video effects, and effects parameters.

I was testing it today and found that when you assign a knob to the effects intensity knob on vsl (not sure what thats called) and go 0-10 rapidly or even semi fast it causes video to skip, stop, and even crashed vsl.

When turning the p1 or p2 knobs on the 57 as fast as you can nothing affects the performance. Granted you cant turn those knobs as fast as you can a midi controller.

Anyways just wanted to give a heads up. Not sure if im going to return it or not. Any one else have issues with it?

Did more testing, on performance graphics settings with the macpro unibody 9600M GT, the fast effects movements cause the video to freeze but not crash vsl.

I guess you wouldnt ever need to use the effects depth really fast but it still risky for me if it can crash the set.

CheLu,

question.... Are you using Rane 57 mixer or another type of mixer. Reason I am asking is because I was told and read that you can use Video Sl with other mixers using a midi controller. I purchased the same midi controller but cannot seem to activate my video sl. Maybe I am not doing something correct. If you have any insight, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

sorry not my video sl but my crossfader. I am assuming that not all mixers are able to be used with video sl...

you can use all mixers with video sl, but only midi capable mixers will give you control of the crossfader. or you can use an external midi controller

thanks for the info. i dont think i want to mix off two units (mixer and midi controller) just for video. I thought my pioneer djm 707 would work but i guess not. I have the same midi cointroller as you and was hoping to use my mixer.

Thanks again

I am using a 57 mixer. I returned the midi controller because i like just using the 57 to control vsl. If it had a random transitions button i would be set :)
