you cant blame apple for that, for that worm to affect our iphone you have to have it jailbroken and have apple unapporoved software installed

I am thinking about converting to a Mac for my work computer.

Interesting that this has been brought up..

I was helping out a friend with organizing his crates. We both have Macs. I connected his computer to my network and shared a folder that had 1.9.2, ScratchTools and some iTunes scripts (from dougscripts.com). I copied those files to his computer and when we tried to run them we couldn't. The file permissions were set in a way which prevented the files from being run. Not only did we have to change the permissions on all the files manually, but he also had to put in his account password to do so.

It was a real pain to go through, but it also made me feel a little safer knowing that any files coming from another machine have to go through a great deal of work to actually execute. That's not saying Macs are immune to attacks like this... I suppose anything is possible...

noone is claiming their inpenatratable but its a fact it is more difficult to hack than a pc

I don't think it's easier to hack a PC than it is a Mac. It's more worthwhile to hack a PC than a Mac. The purpose of malware is to cause as much damage as possible. Why chose the small target of Mac users when you could get much more done by targeting PC users. I'm sure as more and more people (which includes hackers) move to Macs there will be more instances of Mac attacks.
At 6:43 PM 10 November 2009
its much easier to be attacked on a PC because software can instal itself without your permission in the background and incorporate into other files vs the standalone protection of the unix based OSX, if youll notice thats why almost every major virus or malware that gets advertised for macs states that to get it someone will need to go DL some bootleg or pirate shit they shouldnt be DLing anyway and load and install it (including putting in their password allowing it to install) before they are infected.....either way SL needs to make a linux based version LOL

The purpose of hacking used to be to cause damage. Nowadays hackers dont want to damage your system because if its damaged they cannot use it. They want your system up and running so they can use all your resources for their own pleasure.

The main reasons for hacking nowdays is to steal. Plain and simple, you have data, they want it.

There some interesting articles out there that talk about the monetary part of hacking, and it says that last year hackers made more money than drug dealers globally. Thats some scary shit.

The funny part is the best way to hack is just call up places and say "this is joe from IT i need your password", half the time people will just tell you the codes to get in.

That's what I meant by damage. Money missing from my bank account is damage in my opinion. Identity theft is damaging to my credit. Maybe instead of damage I should have used havoc.

How the hell does somebody actually go about searching for child porn anyway? Not that I would of course.

But I imagine a secret room at google having sirens and bells going off when ever somebody does a search and then reporting your ass to the police.

Actually, his defense was legit. He wrote a research paper about it - www.thesmokinggun.com

They did a four-month investigation into it and determined he wasn't a kiddie porn fan.

what kind of investigation do they run to determine this....do they parade kids in bathing suits in from of him and see if he pops wood, or do they leave explicit tapes in his local blockbuster then watch the security film to see if he takes the bait?

I was watchin this thing about Google last night on CNBC. You think you have privacy but they were saying they have every search ever typed in to their engine since they first started saved. And they can trace it back to every computer. That shit is scary.

I was thinkin about that when I turned on Google Latitude on my phone. I can see how something like that can be useful (like tracking where the trains are just in case they're running late or whatever), but for personal use... kinda scary.
