ATT vs Verizon - The Battle Gets Heated!

AT&T is taking Verizon to court. And even if you haven't heard why, there's a good chance you can suspect the impetus behind the suit filed.

If you've seen Verizon's "There's a Map for That" commercials, you've probably noticed that AT&T's represented coverage area looks nothing like the coverage area AT&T says it provides. In fact, the commercial makes AT&T's coverage look so bad, that some commentators in the blogosphere saw this lawsuit coming probably before Verizon did.

unless they can prove it's a lie I don't think they have a case.

My 1st gen iphone get dropped calls almost daily.

Once on a family outing with the in-laws.....
We were deep in the redwood forest of Henry Cowell State Park an nobody got any cellphone coverage except for my wife's uncle who had Verizon. We were all using the poor guy's phone. His bill was probably a lot that month. This was all before the whole "3G" technology, but I doubt basic coverage has changed.

It's the same shit as Burger King vs McDonalds...when they show a nice big juicy burger vs some shrunken crusty ass burger.....I don't think they have a case as it's just marketing hype....I'm not a lawyer, but I did stay at a holiday in express last night...

+1

Every time you see the commercial or the Map, that represents JUST AT&T's 3G coverage (check the fine print text in the ad), not flipping over to Edge network on the iPhone or the shitty overall cellular phone coverage that AT&T offers.

I miss Verizon's rock solid phone service, but the iPhone is so damn sweet that you just deal with it.

I've had a cell phone since the mid 90's (same number) and been with companies that were eventually bought and morphed into Verizon and LOVED the coverage, but made the switch over to AT&T about a year and 1/2 ago just because of the iPhone.

The iPhone on Verizon would be almost better than sex...

I checked out the 2 new Verizon Droid phones over the weekend.

The Motorola one is big, heavy, ugly and fast. I could type on the on-screen keyboard faster than my blackberry with fewer errors. It's a nice phone, but it lacks the apps and the physical sexiness of the iPhone. It has potential, but it needs a design update. They could do away with the physical keyboard, because the virtual one works very well.

The HTC Eris is a beautiful phone. It looks nice, has that matte black finish which has that "grip" to it vs. the glossy finish on the iPhone which can show scratches over time. The size is perfect and the screen is nice, but the phone is slow. Scrolling web pages and contact lists moves nicely, but I'm afraid the phone will get a bit slower over time. The HTC Sense UI is VERY nice. Its a layered menu/desktop/theme type thing that runs on top of Android. I really like it, but they need to package that same exact phone with the faster processor of the Motorola and it needs Android 2.0. More memory wouldn't hurt either.

HTC got it right on the design front. I like their Sense UI and if it continues to work well on the Android 2.0 platform (once they get it working), it'll be something to look out for. I guess Google also needs more developers to get on board to start building more Android apps. Right now they have 1/10th of what Apple has. It's either this... or we wait for Verizon and Apple to make friends sometime next year.

Too late for me. I picked one up today. Verizon is probably the only carrier that works in my house, so I don't see myself switching anytime soon. I saw the HTC Passion might come out soon with a real fast processor, but I don't care for the styling of the phone. My primary consideration was due to them upping their early termination fee from $175 to $350 on advanced phones (which includes PDA, Blackberries and Droid phones). The ETF lowers by $5 each month, but this goes into effect on Sunday (11/15). Any phone purchased after that will have the higher ETF. The other factor was my current phone isn't working. =P
