If you open Finder and go to Music -> iTunes do you see the iTunes Music Library.xml file there?

yes that is my problem. I can't seem to find an .xml file anywhere.. and i can't get itunes to create one. is there a specific process that will force itunes into creating one that contains my current library? I am running itunes 9.0.2. However this problem has persisted since the original itunes 9.0 was released. i've also tried reverting back to an earlier version of itunes (itunes 8) and have had no luck.

Try opening iTunes, make a new playlist, then quit iTunes - this should force iTunes to make a new xml file. Please let me know if that works :)

If you open iTunes, go to Preferences -> Advanced it will show your iTunes Music folder location. Can you please type that EXACTLY into this thread :)
Also do you have the "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" options checked?

Thanks for that :)
Are you able to attach your com.apple.iApps.plist file to this thread? You can find that in ~/Library/Preferences/
