More Organizing Options

It takes me hours and hours of organizing very simple stuff, which I think would be great if it existed in other versions.

1) Deleting Doubles of tracks (Does this exist already??) I'm not just talking about the same file, I'm talking about the same song. Basically, I'd love to see some kind of cleanup option that deletes the same song, wether it be the same doubled mp3 or not

2)Adding text to other mp3s without deleting what's there. Meaning, Let's say I have a whole folder that I put together that's all instrumentals, it would be great to have an option to allow me to add "instrumental" after every song title or artist or watever. That could be great with Acapellas, instrumentals, dirty, clean, Intro, etc.

3)Selecting more than one crate for search. basically, instead of selecting a certain crate, or the "ALL" crate, it would be great to be able to select on or two folders, by holding shift.

I know nik39 has something that everyone says is great organizing tool, but I couldn't really get it to work (Def my fault), and it would be great to just have some of those features in SSL

in regards to #2, can't we already dbl click on the name and rename, add, delete stuff in those fields?

as for #1...that's more of a personal thing, because the source of the files maybe different (for example: you have all of 2pac's albums loaded in ssl and u loaded the greatest hits also.........obviously you will have multiples of some of the songs) UNLESS you don't add albums as crates and you have 1 mass pool of songs and then organize everything from that pool...

Macmillz, what I was refering to was, more than one song at a time, for example, I decided to seperate my clean and dirty tracks into different folders, but if I was able to highlight all of them in one shot, but just add something to the text instead of deleting it and renaming...you know?

I get your comment on #1 but if it was an option, it would really help someone like me and I think a few others too. I just would love to see some tools that would help organizing, because sometimes I have 3 or 4 copies of the same song, and it would take me a year to find them all and clear them.

After - Adding (Dirty) to all the songs in one shot, instead of one at a time

LOL...I hope this explains it. I don't know about everyone else, but for me this would be a great help.

If you are running on a Mac, I can help you do numbers 1 and 2 (I can help you kinda do 3 too, but that would wind up being so complicated it might not work live). If you are on a PC then it's a lot more difficult because applescripts won't work with the PC version (maybe some guru out there is writing scripts, but that's way beyond my knowledge). My advice would entail you to use the "Read Itunes Library" option though. If you utilize that option you can use the power of itunes to create my playlists and crates with the help of doug's applescripts. Itunes certainly isn't the best thing I have ever seen, but after awhile you will learn how to circumvent their bugs (they call them features, I call them bugs, LOL). Let me know what system you are on and then I can help you as much as I can.

David, thank you very much. I actually found out about apple scripts yesterday after doing some research. I got the one that embeds the album artwork to the mp3. If you know of other scripts that can help me with the above I would greatly appreciate it.

About the "read itunes library" option, it sounds like serato guys are trying to get everyone to stop using it. I myself don't use it, but I wouldnt mind starting.....I just have a question, If I wanted to take the tracks, after I organized them in itunes through your method, and made a copy of the playlists, I could then just import them as reg. crates correct?

Here's what I have, you tell me what would work best:

I have a mac pro (Apple tower) 8 core, with 6 gigs of ram....I usually use this one for organizing cause its fast.

I also have two mac laptops, new 15" pro and older intel 17" pro

None of them have snow leopard, just reg. leopard

I haven't heard from you regarding some of the apple scripts.

I purchased Dupin. That program is perfect. Exactly what I was looking for, but do you know of a script that could do what I was refering to in #2?
