Arrows?

I have been gone for a minute from the forum and noticed some changes. Just curious, what do the little "arrows" next to some of the thread topics mean?

The arrows mean that you haven't viewed a particular thread at all, whereas the yellow background color indicates that there are new messages in a thread.
