MY Serato 1.9.1 with video running Freezez then Crashes mid set ???!!!AH help
So this past weekend after doing a gig for 3 hours I went to my second Gig and about midnight (2 hours in) doing video MY video froze then the sound stopped.... I thought it was the file I put a record on and went back and fourth with vynal while I worked on my computer..... it came back on and seem to run ok then froze again DAM! So then it came back up and by not its almost the end of the night.....
Was it to hot?
Was it the file?
Is it My version of Serato?
Then the Next night same scenerio... early gig ... second gig club all video... it was fine..then totally different file and boom freeeze video and crash....
has anyone had this problem?
I have a new MAC powerbook pro and have been doing video for a year with no crashes now I had 2 in one weekend ...
OH NOTE : if you have a 57 and let someone else use it before you or set it up at a club CHECK YOUR SETTINGS ON THE BACK when you arrive... this kid had put his serato box runnig through my 57 (wtf) and then the sound guy had adjusted the small switches in the back.... so i was getting NO Signal 4 to 6 rrecords deep i figured out why it was soo muddy and NO CIRCLES at all were present ! SO CHECK YA SELF before You REC yourself Amiture openers are bad fo your health...

yah but i do video... any it wont have half of the effects... Its almost as if my track starts to eat itslef... The wave file will just dissapere... or the file will stop and i will load up the new track and it will litterally be on top of it playing both... it seems to be getting worse and more frequent and its killing me...has anyone had this problem of the track ... eating its self or the wave file dissapereing... and I am also rebuilding my overviews...on everything and i am trying to find is it the file or the version or the computer?

i've been having the same problem. do you use external drives? i have two that i use, one is for music the other for video. i noticed it seems to do it when my computer has trouble mounting the video drive. (i'm guessing the 800 port is getting worn out) it may be that ur drives dismounted or something and it only remembers the song up to a certain point. its all speculation. i'm trying to figure out for sure what the problem is

I am also having the same problem. Not sure if its a coincident, but it all started when I downloaded 1.9. Then I downloaded 1.9.1, and I'm still having issues. Mine went out when I was doing a Wedding. I fucked up the 1st Dance Song. This was the absolute worst feeling in the world. These issues are making me consider retirement. i've been DJing since 92 and I've had more problems these last couple months, then i've had my entire career. I really loved Scratch live, never had any problems, till I got 1.9. Is there a way to go back to 1.8 or something. I couldn't find where to download it. The only download I see is 1.9.1 now.

long shot but do you close your macbook down properly in between gigs or do you just sleep it then open at the second gig ? if you sleep your macbook i beleve some of the ram becomes unusable forcing the computer to crash. it use to happen to me ever since i have loaded serato up years ago but now since im away of that it dont happen anymore. im running the lattest vsl with a ttm57 and i have a macbook pro 2.5 with 4g ram.

OK CHECK IT.... So i had the problems and the boys over at Serato helped me tremendously.. I do at least 4 shows a week with a video Radio show to a mill listeners each week ( I SAY this only to show the urgency of what u need to do, not to brag on what I am doing, a wedding is a bad thing but a million people watching your computer take a shit is also a bad feeling)
OK now on to what to do .... I am running the Latest version (1.9.1 with latest video and 57 updates) MaC Book Pro New Unibody .... 4 gig ram and 320 HD... OK
STEPS TO FIXING CRASHES...
1. DO NOT USE AN EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE... (I know with the size of videos that sux but you must pick and choose.. so you dont run out of space on your drive...less is more if you really try this out and hand pick your tracks.. like when you used to have to pack a crate.. remember vynal...) I was having my problems here so when I removed my External and went back to the Main HD it has been working seemlessly Knocking on wood
2. BUILD AND RE BUiLD ALLLLLL overviews... This is very key.. When doing video its taking a ton of space and memory and proccessing so anything you can do to minimize this will be very helpful in the long run.... Always build overviews and then ... if your just sitting there with your box or mixer not plugged in Build again .. it can only help
3. Always have the Airport or internet turned off.. I noticed the clipping at a gig one time all because of my internet was on and looking for networks...
4. WHEN you have SERATo Open With the VIdeo UP Go to SETTINGS
a. . Move the Video buffer to 2gb and turn off V-sync. Put the output quality to medium and have your Audio USB buffer between 5 and 10. Turn off all other programs and options and delete all corrupt files.
I was having crashes for 4 weeks plus and talk about getting frustrated and just nervous when your set is going to shut off..... I did these simple things and it has been working now for a few weeks all good.....
WARNING of time..... ok so when you transfer the files you will loose your loops and cue points.. IF ANYONE knows a better way so I dont have to go back and re set cues and loops it would be greatly appreciated....
TRY this I know its frustrating but I did this and it seems to help
ALSO DjKrisp1 is right.. BETWEEN All gigs... or going from the studio to a gig ALWAYS turn off mac and start fresh .. keeps your drive started fresh and also keeps it starting from zero point..
Hope this works... wordup.....
weekly radio show.. wednesday 3-5 pst www.jellyradio.com... ALL HIP hOP and All dope videos if you ever want to check it...

Probably too late to help any one but, i had this same problem. It was actually my external hard drive. Serato crashed on me five gigs in a row, finally i got a new external and everything was fine. It was just a sign that the drive was failing.

what are you using now that seems to be workingI've had good results with both Western Digital and Hitachi drives.
I've also heard there's a recent firmware patch from Apple that's supposed to fix problems people are having with the 500gb 7200rpm Seagate drives, but I've also heard conflicting reports on whether or not the patch is actually working.
I've personally experienced so many problems with Seagate drives since about 2003 that I'm steering clear of them. The recent problems with the 7200rpm 500gb drives in MacBook Pro's is at least the third time in the last few years that Seagate drives have been involved in a major issue in Apple products.

True All drives do die eventually.. i try to buy a new one every 6 months and keep a fresh back up... 150 bux is worth it for the headache and stress of loosing all your music ... ahh how that would make you shit if you lost all your vynal collection back in the day.... you would have gladly spent 150 to have a full complete set of your whole collection... very worth it
