I have been doing some research on it and I don;t think it is the best piece of gear for Serato. First off, it really is linked hard to Ableton. There are a lot of software issues as well and for that you need a Akai program called Max for Live in order to be able to do any type of custom programming. And the final kicker is that because this is a branded for Ableton piece, they have said that they will not be making any other templates for other software.

I think you can use this for Serato, but you will really lose a lot of functionality, and for the price, it's just doesn't seem worth it.

I am actually looking at the Akai MPD 32 controller as an alternative.

It's a shame, because the APC-40 is a cool looking machine.

I just got live and thought that this controller would be cool if they worked together.

It's 100% made for live. I would buy it in second if I used live.

max for live is not a akai software............... is the future now......... (well from the 23rd of noveber 2009).............

max for live is Max (from cycling74) inside ableton........
with both version you are able to make your own synth, midi devices, effects etc. etc. (as long as you know what you are doin')......

have fun...... serato does it better........ love from roma!!!!!!

How about the Novation Launchpad? Unfortunately it does not have any knobs and faders, but it has a whole lot more pads/buttons and much smaller footprint (and REALLY lower price)

Why use it for serato when it's so much better for ableton?
