I love the idea behind the whitelabel side. Its too bad that picture disks are not optimal for scratching. To make it worse, mine bowl a little bit toward the running man so that stick like glue to my decks.

I remember these the first time Serato was at NAMM in 03! I got up to try to cut on it and told them right then and there they had a hit on their hands and it would be successful.... Who would have thought??

closest disk is an earlier pink non marble before the breast pinks came out at namm... its thinner and lighter then the marble pinks... the marbles are more like the marble purples, and the solid pinks are like the thin blacks and other disks.

yea if you look at my mixer pic i do that with all of my vinyls, the pinks because i don't want to damage the real label... call me crazy but i think we all are for collecting :D cutting stickers is annoying but it works i guess. LOL

Bezzle, i think the sigs are having issues today, mine is a hit or miss. :)

That light blue is a test pressing i believe, someone who knew someone who knew someone at the pressing plant. legit. marble grays and the others are legit too. i'm jealous.

That light blue is a test pressing i believe, someone who knew someone who knew someone at the pressing plant. legit. marble grays and the others are legit too. i'm jealous.

The marble grays in that picture are transparent (extra dope). There are other marble grays out there which are solid (thicker).

just a couple of each will work.

I will always have more "real" records though. I owned a record store for two years.

It was called Release Record and then Release.Community. I started it in the back of my truck when I moved to Humboldt. I was selling records here before I even had a place to live. It grew from one box to the front of a glass blowing gallery and then to its own location (Release.Community). I closed the store in 2001 after 9/11, and have been running the business as a production company ever since. I still have many "clients" and I get them anything from speakers to SL1s. Part of the 77 are inventory so I have some CVs on hand for locals when they need them. 60 of them are keepers though (so far).

I have to say that getting into collecting control records was unexpected but it has opened a whole new chapter to something I thought was a thing of the past. I've been getting my fingers dirty digging and I have fond some great treasures lately. I pressed a record in 2002 and had more ready to go, but I thought it was not going to be worth the costs. Now, some of those plans are coming back out of the file cabinet. I would love to be adding to Serato Pressings line. In fact now that I have just typed that, it is my goal and I am going to make it happen.

Would you all buy some original reggae cuts with a control tone on back and made out of green hemp-based plastic?

hahaha!! funny thing is the records you see in my pics are about 25% of my entire collection. i just brought those out to my room to arcive about 3 years ago and still havnt gotten around to it yet..lol
the other 75% is in my garage collecting dust..

Can someone tell the the story behind the orange CVs? Not the golds... I posted a pic of my orange cv on the purple marble thread some time ago and some people seemed a bit taken back that I had them and I always wondered why. Some even said that they were the orange looking golds but they are not clear like both shades of the gold, they are solid in color(witch is ez to see in the pic). Thanks in advance to anyone who feels like elaborating.

the Og's are pure clear/transparent. The new clears are a bit on the foggy clear side.

I have all those you talk about here. Transparent gold that looks orange, marble orange (kinda solid), 1st run of clears (that are more clear) and 2nd run of clears (more foggy than the first). Some people usually mistake the 2nd run clears for whites (because they've never seen the whites in person).

It's kinda thick tho. You can't really get LOOSE on thick vinyls. The darker gray vinyls in the fist pic are different. Those were more transparent, darker and thinner. I like those. I think they belong to Slyce.

The Dimmak CV's were made by Sic Wax and are not approved by Serato.
Dimmak did not know this when they were supplied to them and have since removed them from the market.

I might add that none of the Sic Wax or Time Code Vinyl records are official.

Bootleg Serato vinyl are often rips of our CD Control Tone that are pressed onto Vinyl. There are usually gaps in the record that cause the music to play intermittently. We have also found that needle drop features don't work as they should. Most bootlegs won't switch to internal mode on the lead out. The list of problems goes on and on.

Serato are working hard on creating a discog type page for you all to easily spot the real thing.

Do us a favour team - if you spot bootlegs, let the store know they are wrong.
Often the record stores genuinely don't know these don't work.

If in doubt - ask us on this thread.

I played on some bootlegs and tracking was horrible. We changed out needles a few times until I decided to listen to the control signal in the headphones. The vinyls were about a month old but had horrible static and clicks throughout the control signal. The never used B side worked better, but with this being my first (and only) time using bootlegs I could def tell something wasn't right. Aside from supporting Serato, the quality control alone should be enough to deter anyone from using bootlegs.

Seems more like its the Record, b/c the right deck was official and worked fine even when the needle got dirty

The problem I had [at the Jammy Jam] was on the left deck as well. They weren't Dim Mak vinyls though... not sure what type of bootlegs they were, but all the problems were on the left side. Weird.

I saw some yellow ones this weekend at Electric Daisy Carnival. At least that's what they looked like on the projectors. They could've been gold. I took pix of them. I'll post them later.

I once had a record that played from the center out. That was a trip. I also had one with white & Black swirls on it. It tripped you out when it played.

I have been talking to Rane about the purples to get a better understanding of their make-up. We haven't seen a physical set down here in NZ as yet.

The 1st Purple is Marbled - solid like with random speckles.
There was a unscheduled run of these when the plant were changing over colours, we got some for promo and some were sold in the US.

This new one is Purple See-Through and I believe will be a ongoing item.
Now I have to be careful when I say that as sometimes the plants can't obtain certain colours and they run out for a time. This happened a couple of years back with Red and Blue.

Sometimes they come out of the sleeve in slightly different shades - some might call them Grape, Crimson etc.. but in essence they are supposed to be Purple (if you get my drift).

Sometimes we get weird streaks in the colours as runs in the plant change colours over. I'd call these Freaks and if you find one, it's a little like Wonkas golden ticket if you are a collector. We have no idea how many freaks are made by mistake - it's just an error at the press.

We are taking photos this week of all of our records here at Serato. We'll have a discogs page in place ASAP for us to oogle at them.

Sometimes they come out of the sleeve in slightly different shades - some might call them Grape, Crimson etc.. but in essence they are supposed to be Purple (if you get my drift).

Sometimes we get weird streaks in the colours as runs in the plant change colours over. I'd call these Freaks and if you find one, it's a little like Wonkas golden ticket if you are a collector. We have no idea how many freaks are made by mistake - it's just an error at the press.

We are taking photos this week of all of our records here at Serato. We'll have a discogs page in place ASAP for us to oogle at them.


And this is why Serato has the best Marketing man of all time, great explanation Scott. Finally someone official explains the "backstory" of how colors come about, etc.

oh, well see yesterday, www.agiprodj.com had pics up of the old purple marble vinyl originally sold at guitar center. now they have a pic up of the clear purple, but they still have "marble" in the description...

do you mean the ones that were sold at guitar center months ago? or are you speaking of another run of of them recently that is available now?

the pics they have posted dont show the marble. I've seen a few other shots of the new ones that have a slight darkish marble effect. I guess it all depends on what you get when you open it up.

yo, i'm about to order from them.

my only fear is warping during shipment in this summer heat. did your's turn out ok?

i only use the b-side (for the 15 minutes), and i do a lot of spin backs at the end of mixes, so if a serato record is slightly warped the wrong way (warped down on the 15 minute side), the spin back doesn't spin very far, which sucks.

so i usually buy serato vinyl at my local sam ash where they let me open it up, put it on the turntables, and make sure it's not warped.

you can PM me about any design ideas - it would have to be a large scale project for us to consider it. There is a lot of cost involved in making sure a record is good enough quality to be official.

so i received my clear purples last week.

sending them back tho. i do a lot of spin backs at the end of my mixes, and only use the 15 minute side. both copies i received barely spin back at all, i'm talking maybe 2 - 3 revolutions with a firm yank (where as others spin back several revolutions).

plus, even with a white slipmat on, you can barely tell they're purple.

my purple marbles spin back way more times and you can tell they're purple (i prefer that lavender color purple anyways).

i think we should list the bootlegs. not so much to support them but just to acknowledge that they are there and to help delineate them from the official pressings (maybe in a different thread). plus it would be a way to keep an eye on these bootyleggers (no misquote). i'm sure that if we posted about new bootlegs that became available it would help the Serato/Rane crew go after them sooner (a million set of eyes vs. 20).

haha yeah I love that some of these places charge you 3x what it actually costs to ship vinyl. Complete bullshit if you ask me. I found a couple CV's that I wanted this week and ended up skipping on them because the shipping doubled the cost. bleh

But it did lead me to calling a friend at a record store that doesn't really have a website and he said he had 4 of the Diplo's left and he'd give them to me at his cost of $10 each. so those are on the way...woohoo!!

best place I've seen to get the new purps is on ebay. There's a lot of listings with free shipping up there. I think I may get them there. As for the Diplos I was gonna hold on to 2 and try to work out a trade with someone for a couple of the other colors I don't have. If you got a couple to trade then holler. I don't even have them yet though so let me shutup and not jinx myself. haha

From what I've read, there were only 1000 pressed, and they are completely sold out world wide! I personally don't like the Smokes or Cobalts, so I could care less about them.

I do not like the new label. I think the old one is iconic and looks much better on the colored vinyl. I tend not to use the brick red side.

is there any chance of bringing the old labels back, or a slight modification of it.

Man, I missed the entire middle years of scratch. I had the protools plugin with the gatefold 2LP set and I just bought the box a few weeks ago so I'm jumping right into the collector steez because that's what the hell I am...a vinyl collector. Missing the boat on some of the colors I would love to have hurts though....bad.

Aww shit they are official. My local gc was nice enough not to bullshit me and told me they already have the item in the computer but don't have a release date or scheduled arival time. I was told the 45th sale begins next month sometime in august. So keep your eyes peeled. Limited to just one set per customer...ouch.

I think they aren't the nicest looking things but imo the blue looks the best. That pattern probably looks nice rotating on your platter.

Also dude I talked to said, "yeah there are two employees here waiting on them also." That's not allowed is it?

Yeah, I agree with the Marble Purps doing the siiick spinbacks.........out of all the CVs I own, I love and use the Marble Purps the most!! However, I do like the feel of the new Shibuya's too, and that white just looks sooo sweet under the blue light of the 1210M5G's!!

So all that 2 Limit on the Smoke sets from TTLab did was create a whole new crop of wanna be ebay hustlers. I counted 8 sets at one point. What will be funny is when the 2nd smoke set drops and no one will want to pay a ridiculous buy it now price. I also have a hunch that the whites and blacks are going to be re-pressed, so everybody sitting on their extra whites will be bummed.

Now it looks like someone has a run on the GC vinyl. The one set rule was enforced for my purchase from GC, and I just know that the employees started nabbing all they could once I tipped them off. Now there is one seller with more than 4 sets. I wonder if they work for GC?

I agree with you on some things dub. The things i can't understand with the person trying to flip the gc vinyl is he listed all of them at the same time. In effect competing against himself to drive the price down.

good point on the re-press of the Pressings. Defeats the purpose in my opinion of being limited. However if any of them should be its the Shibuya breaks, I think a release like this should be available when you first get Serato, maybe in just black vinyl. Its a great tool.

The white vinyl craze is over though, especially since there are about to be another 1500 white records dropping on the marketplace. I remember thinking before I had a pair that they would be easier to see in the dark for some reason. So far the yellows and clears work best for me to see the grooves.

I bid on a pair of the GCs on ebay, because I have a hunch they will go for less than what I paid retail due to so many being up at the same time.

I would love to know how many copies of Scratch Live vinyl have been pressed. Each color and grand total. At what point did it/will it surpass the most number of any one album pressed. I have to admit that the shark was jumped a long time ago, but this is history in the making as the vinyl record is currently being saved one more time.

I would never support any re-press. Now if they decide to make a shibuya breaks 2 and press 50,000 of em... im not gonna hate. Just don't sell us a product that we buy under the assumption that only 4000 will ever be made (and price accordingly) and make more available. That just shafts all us us who have been loyal to rane and especially those of us that collect the pressings because they are limited.

I do agree that the cv/scratch record is a very useful tool. It get's rid of the lag felt when I scratch.

Rectangle made ultimate battle breaks 1-100 =) q made all of his records etc... Rane should also make different scratch records... not just the same one over and over again. =) Also, that gives us more samples to work with... not just the same ahhh's & fresh's over and over again.

The GC editions are a bit heavy. However, when calibrating they dampen out all vibrations. I have to do a lot a scratch mixing. The GC's are not for those that want to battle or do lots of scratching. If you are simply blending , the GC vinyl disc are for you. I'm going to keep rocking mine in my club gigs. Some folks say they are ugly, I agree but they are limited. What I don't understand is why is simple color like white are so freaking popular? The best vinyl I have had was Spyder D, Smurphee's dance. If you put a black light on it, it looks like marble.

really does suck! lol..lost vegas you got lucky with that last pair,i was there shoppin at GC on townsqaure and Mary handed me those bad ones but she gave me another one because she said the other ones looked bad, i may have gotten that bad 45s if it wasnt for Mary(or mary anne lol something like that) last time i checked i believe they only had 8 sets of them, and i got lucky to get the first out of the bunch so i had a good selection to choose from

Smoke is technically 'clear with color added'

I was told the clear one Stokyo sent me was the first one off the line before the color got added. I'm guessing the other clear ones just got missed in the random color adding process. They are all supposed to be the Marble Smoke color.

Some people got random clear records in the Smoke box set from TTLab. Some people got upset, but it turns out those are the rarest Shibuya Breaks of all.

I feel like that could be a cool mod. Picture disc mod. Crack open your GC vinyl and insert your own picture. But I guess it isn't much different than just using clear vinyl with custom slipmats. still kinda cool..

Besides, picture discs are heavy as hell and the grooves aren't nearly deep enough. I don't trust a company that blatantly steals to be reliable in their quality assurance claims. Here is a pic of the 1 orange I picked up. It is from a Rane sponsored dj, so I am pretty damn sure it is legit. The sleeves don't say anything on them though? The green one he just threw in bc I am going to try and frame one of every color for a cool wall. For some reason it seems a lot more heavy duty than my other greens though (thicker).

I managed to get the slipmats after some camera guy took pics of me cuttin on itch cuz he wanted my tattoos in the shot. Sam hooked me up with the mats right afterwards.

Do you guys just blatantly ask for stuff or do you just hang out and hope they give? I saw one dude pestering Mike? the entire day for free stuff till Mike finally told him ITS ALL GONE THERES NOTHING LEFT LEAVE ME ALONE.

The smokes are open so that I could check the marbling on them. I use a pair of blacks at home. One of the whites is open so that the guy I bought them from could take a picture.

Other than that, I have left them closed for now.

been at it 10 years here. in 1999, the venues only had DJs (or I should say DJ, big up yourself Red- [he still spins vinyl no SSL]) between bands. Now we DJs are all over up here. It's disgusting how much talent lives here and never gets exposed.

that is the Humboldt local version. I'm mixing it live and I you hear the ads for the grow shops and other local businesses. Its being broadcast on FM at the same time. I've hosted the reggae show for 6 of the 25 years it has been on. So its a long time Humboldt County tradition.

it also plays on www.bigupradio.com every Monday (3am, 9am, 3pm, 9pm Eastern Time) on the Roots station. You can also download podcasts there. I take out the ads and redo the voice drops for an international audience.

my tuesday night gig is all reggae and dancehall, much like the radio show
the rest of the week I play videos (hip hop, R&B, pop, funk, 80s, etc)

i went ahead and bought 14 tittsworths... LOL... not sure they'll go too high, but i'll at least make something on 'em eventually... 2 pair did go for $100.00 just a few days ago tho...

for the record, i'm only reselling like that to make up for all the money i've spent on control vinyl i plan to keep... which is a lot... so don't hate, LOL!

That was just the Sam Ash in Westminster tho. The Sam Ash in Hollywood is cool with it, and GC in brea as well. I went to go look for the shibuya's in GC in Cerritos and they wouldnt let me look at the vinyl either. As soon as I mentioned the shibuya's, the guy turned to his computer and just said "nah man no more in stock..". I asked him if I could look in the crates and he just told me he didnt have any. GC Brea & GC Pasadena & also Fountain Valley always let me look at their records, FYI.

Some of those pro audio guys I think have ego's though, thank god I have friends who are dealers and only go to GC for their vinyl now..

those are the oranges sent out to beta testers around the same time as the original GC purples came out.

tough to find.

I did get a package that had some orange Golds, but those are gone already. One of them was cracked and another one was yellow gold but more cloudy than the other yellow gold pair I have.

I can finally tell you for a fact that the color of the Orange Golds is the same as the beta Oranges, however the beta oranges are marbled with white.

I'll post some pics soon.

cobalts are nice, i was gonna get a set and a half from a local gc here in vegas but they were all warped..lol.. do you have the smokes?? those would probably sell alot more than any of the other shibuyas,

even though i am guilty of collecting vinyl,(i have a small collection compared to some members in here) i feel that if you are collecting vinyl to make a buck, you aren't going to make as much as you think. very few vinyl is worth good money. i recently unloaded some vinyl because it was sitting in my closet and i wasn't planing on using it. i made a few bucks and i'm not missing them.

you say this but i would pay upto £150 for a set of whites to be honest so i think there is some money to be made by some people out there im personally collecting to get every vinyl available i got 2 pair of rare-ish vinyl this weekend and currently have 4 winning bids on different sets of vinyl on the web and i dont plan on using any of them

im exactly the same tho i will never be at the level of kryptonitednb or dub cowboy i want to have a large collection and plan to buy new CV at least once a month and hopefully find me some rare pieces
