Keyboard Shortcut Stickers - Download Here

ssl-wiki.help.bootlegs.de

These are the updated shortcuts for SSL 1.5 (currently in beta testing). Most of these will work with previous versions (except for features that did not exist, ie. looping and a few other changes that were made in the update).

For optimal printing conditions, download the .pdf from this page and print on Avery labels #5267 (if you can get them lined up correctly) or #8165 (if you don't mind manually cutting them)

I'm hoping these will allow the SSL community to take full advantage of all the features that SSL offers and help them to continue to push the DJ game further.

Holla back if you start/are using these ... i'm interested in hearing if these are helping you do more than you were doing before...

SloMo, I didnt follow how you could print them and use them on which sticker. I remember in the original thread there was something about clear-labels or something, or a printable foil. If you have the time, can you (or anybody else) add the info to the wiki? (wiki editing is really really simple! As easy as using a wordprocessor) Thanks... And yeah, good job you and those who contributed with suggestions+ideas :)

You can see it in the page history who did exactly what changes. If you feel uncomfortable, you can add your sig/name to that page with a link to your board profile.

Is that what you mean?
At 9:43 PM 23 March 2006
nik39 wrote
Sure nik...

The stickers were originally designed to be printed on Avery mailing labels (#5267). The heighth of these labels are real close to the size of most keyboard keys, so I used those labels when I designed/printed the first set.

Unfortunately, all printers are different, so the placement of my original design, which printed perfectly on my printer, hasn't lined up as well for others that have tried printing with those same labels.

To avoid this problem altogether, Peeti-V suggested buying the full sheet Avery label (#8165) and manually cutting out the stickers. This is a little more manual work, but might save you some time and frustration if you are having trouble getting the pre-cut labels to line up correctly. If you know how to use a pair of scissors, I would recommend using the full-sheet label.

Also, the cover seems like its adherered to the surface of the laptop with glue. I don't know if I like that idea. But overall its a nice thing. It would suck if you tried to press one combination of buttons and all of the sudden something else happened because of the plastic cover. lol.

Liav, the links above ARE the stores that sell them I believe...?

Here's a pic from my notebook with the double sided tape stickers. After a couple of days playing a couple seem to be coming off. The tape sticks well to the keys but the paper doesn't. So now I am on a hunt for a kind of paper that will stick better. :)

The tape is very nice. I tried removing it and it left no residue, it was super easy to remove and it did not damage the silk-screened letter on the key.

FYI.

Tab Key - I think i like the name (Move/Select) in actuality thats what its fuction is i like the name should fit well. the book actually uses the work Alternate could maybe even use that.

Caps locked Key - bare with me me im writing as im thinking i was more aless thinking of the fuctionality of the key! without caps locks on you cannot control decks (are what most djs call that type of interface! so that said i got it CAPS LOCKED KEY (CONTROL DECKS INT. On/off)
i definatly like that. so it would more or less look something Control Decks {(int) Italic} then on /off directly below it. now if that dose not fit then try CTRL DECKS (caps & Bold) followed by the on & off . Just looking at the book again you could as well use[ DECK KEYS (int) ]Followed by on/off!

crtl + Z key - Undo Last (simple) lol

space bare (Tap) BMP - Please Add (Tap) [ (Tap) BPM ] " preferably along with I would love mine to say Deejaychoice! lol"

esc key - Clear

Hey man, what you want to do is right click and save them to your computer and from there open them with your program of choice. When you print them, make sure you print them at 100% scale or else the buttons may come out at a different size - NO GOOD.

PRINTING:
Be sure to use your printer's BEST QUALITY setting to get as much crispness out of the edges, etc. Trust me, it makes a difference... specially with the smaller text. If your printer has a "smoothing" feature (normally used for photos), try turning it OFF. I got much better results this way.

APPLYING THEM:
Once you got them printed cut them out carefully and use scotch double-sided tape to glue them on. In order for the adhesive to hold better try not to touch the back of the page too much and make sure to clean the keys carefully with a moist rag (Turn off the laptop when you do all this).

The double-sided tape can be applied to the back of the sheet in long, even stripes that cover the full area you are going to cut. This allows you to simply cut each key and apply to the laptop inmediately after you cut it (just be careful not to touch the adhesive too much).

THE PAPER:
I have gotten better results with high "coated papers". Not necessarily a photo paper, but just a nice glossy finish. This type of material seems to help the adhesive stick on longer. Brighter papers (98 Brightness or more) look better than the cheaper papers, FYI.

Good luck!

PS: Glad you guys dig them, I put a lot of time and love into them. I'll put up a pic of how they look on the laptop soon.

Strong enough for the application, yet easy on the key's silkscreened letters.

At the moment Mac's are the only thing i got going at the moment i would love to work on pc's and anyone who is willing to work with me im more than to talk about it with them! The main problem i come across it that there are to many windows os machines out the. Now if we can come up with a couple of machines that are commonly used that would be great then we can work from there.

Hey fellaz, just wanted to bump this thread by letting yall know that I am working some magic with double sided Scoth Tape! Yes indeed, lol, scotch tape works real well. Just print the buttons on normal white paper and go to town with the tape in the back.

I am using Scotch brand "Removable Double Coated Tape". It sticks solid yet it does not seem to be the kind that will peal the key's number a year from now when the keyboard shortcuts are changed... :P

hey bro, you are not going to find much of a difference, almost sure of that. Get some nice laser printer paper and go to town with it. I have had mine on there for months and months... sometimes a cue point sticker might come loose. But I just re-align it and its back to work with no problems. And that happens maybe ones every 3 weeks.

The key is to not touch the materials a lot. Clean your hands when you are cutting, applying, etc.

Hope this helps.

Hey BIS I love the labels you did! Here is just a thought for your design....

You have the letters for the keys (a,s,d,f....) printed on the labels and the ones from the actual keys show through the label. So why not leave out putting the letters on the labels and move the shortcuts to the bottom portion of the label so you can see the original letters on the keys? just thought it might clear it up a bit so there is no or less overlap.\

I hope this makes sense and for the record I mean no disrespect to the design you made it is real dope idea, just thought I would give some input.

DJ KEVLAR wrote
Thanks man! Thats a great idea and I see what you mean.

The challenge comes in the cutting of a sticker. Cutting out a space for the Key's letter to show through is trickier than you can imagine, so designing the key's letter ON the label is a better route in terms of cutting.

The actual key text that I put on the label is actually not bad at all to read. Sometimes I have to "hunt" down certain symbols, but its rare.

Glad you liked the product. I would start producing these on a rubber template for all windows users, but I have not found a good manufacturer that is affordable and that will do what I want.

If you know anyone with this type of capability, please let me know.

I dont know of any manufacturer for the key board over lays but am interested if you do find one!!

I didnt mean to cut out where the letters are on the keys, just to simply not have the one printed on the label and move the symbols for the shortcuts to where the letters on the keys are not. then if you use a clear label the key letters will automatically show through without cluttering up the symbols for the shortcuts.

Just my 2 cents I love it either way!

Just wanted to update you on a quick re-release of the Blue/Yellow Keyboard Sticker set for Windows Notebooks:

www.djbis.com

About a month ago I started to notice that some of the stickers, specially the ones in the warmer/hotter parts of the keyboard were falling off when the laptop was being transported, then while playing at the gigs. Last week it got to be a pain so I am re-doing the stickers for those who start to see the same problem.

Changes:

• Added the BPM multiplier (BPM / X2) info in red to the ALT buttons - (Alt-up doubles the bpm, and alt-down halves the bpm. This works both when editing the bpm in the track list and when using tap tempo.)

• Added a white outline to the Loop-in/out buttons to make them stand out from the rest. Made the Re-Loop button slightly darker to make it stand out as well.

• Changed color slightly for all Hot-Cue buttons to help with the contrast, etc.

Nothing major, just little refinements here and there.

As always, be sure to clean your keyboard the best you can when re-applying a new set. A dirty button surface will only frustrate you later on.

If you have any tips on fluids to use for cleaning that won't damage the silk screening on the keys, let us know!

Thanks.

DJUltimate wrote
Dude, I'll be honest, I bought them, used them a few times while DJing and stopped wearing them because they felt awkward. Don't give me wrong they are great for during other DJ's sets, etc, but they take away the low frequencies too much (it feels like there is no bass in the room) and that can create some problems with your EQing. Their fit is the best you'll find, but they still stick out of your ear enough that you keep rubbing them with your headphones (very annoying).

Also, when you speak on the mic you don't get an accurate gauge for how loud you sound on the mic since you can hear yourself real loud inside your head (occlusion effect). You may be speaking very softly into the mic when you think you are being loud.

I had hoped that being able to avoid a lot of the "noise" in the DJ booth by wearing the earplugs would help me keep the monitor levels at the same (or lower) volumes, but I found myself killing the monitor since I could hear it less.

I have spoken with many people who got used to wearing them at every gig and all they could tell me is to wear them, wear them, wear them... it takes a while to get used to them but they will help you in the long run. I have yet to achieve it...

Alot of us that have mackbook pros or powerbooks have keys that light up......are you guys designing a more translucent style cover that would work better with these keyboards? Hello everyone,

I am writing because I would like your input regarding the product that I want to start producing and I know you guys will lay it out like its supposed ta'...

First, sorry for the delay in releasing something on eBay like I said I would. I got caught up thinking that if I am going to produce something I might as well do it right from the beginning so at this point I am waiting to finish the concept and then we'll go to production which is much more expensive and involved that thought.

[b]What I am working on:[b]

• Full color, "one size fits all", high quality synthetic glossy "stickers" with adhesive and already "notched" out, ready for you to peel and stick on your keyboard. The adhesive is very solid on the key however if removal is needed you won't hurt the printing on your key. The coating on the sticker keeps the color from fading off.

Layout - QWERTY standard (AZERTY and other layouts will be considered depending on demand).
Standard color - Blue and Yellow (optimal for dark environments)
Estimated price - $30 (considering that Windows computer users do NOT have anything of quality to put on their keyboards and a rubber cover for SSL on a MAC costs $35+).

Questions to you:

• First things first - I need to figure out just how many orders to kick this thing off with, so I need a show of hands for how many of you are TRULY interested. Where are you from? What kind of keyboard layout (QWERTY? AZERTY? other?).

• Is the price something that you would object to? If so what would be the most you would ever pay and why?

• The colors are something that I have worked on for quite some time now. I used various other colors and none seemed to make as much design sense and serve the purpose of "low lighting visibility". If you have any suggestions regarding colors I would like to hear it. ...ASAP!

• Anything else I am missing?

Thank you!!!

Price isnt too bad, depending on the quality. The $35 mac ones are a rubber lay over that can be transfered to different laptops if needed...so I can see $35 for that. Maybe 10-20 bucks, but hey, price it to what you think your time and effort is worth.

QWERTY is probably the way to go. I dont know too many people who know or use AZERTY. I think the colors need to be bright so you can read them in a club setting, Glow in the dark might be lost since your screen is gonna put off some light.

Indeed Fonzie! You are going to get that kind of product. Something nice and professional. I have been looking into everything that will go into it. I have a couple of local companies that give me some really high prices, some national companies that give me better prices and then we have China which is even better but then we are talking a whole other deal with shipping and everything.

If I can get a local shop to take care of me I may have them shipping out in a week or two, but if I have to avoid local shops then we are talking up to a month unfortunately because there is a lot of samples that have to be exchanged and a lot of issues that I am learning as I go, but trust me, this is something I am trying to finish ASAP, for you AND me... :)

AZERTY is a keyboard layout that suits computer users in certain parts of europe. In fact there was enought demand of the AZERTY design I created which tells me I may be able to export this suckers in both AZERTY and QWERTY (standard keyboard layout).

None of the local shops can do stickers that Glow, and by looking at what I am being charged for standard colors I can already say that Glowing keys will be something that I either take on for the future or don't do at all because of the cost. Physically I don't even think it can be done, I would have to do some more research.

Quote:

BuddyLove, most *adhesive* products I have ever worked with can't be adhered and then peeled too many times unfortunately, they lose strength, even after the first peel. I personally don't think that this product will be able to do what you mention since it sticks to the keys with an adhesive product and its meant to stay there for as long as possible. I have asked also about the strength of the adhesive used since I am worried that if I want to change a few keys later on I won't be able to or I may hurt the silk screened symbols already on the key.
Most places have told me that you won't hurt the keys if you do remove them, but you still have to be careful.

Anyways, I am keeping yall updated ok? be back in a little while. Wish me luck!

PS: by the way, I ordered a set of Photoshop Editor's Keys from that company and I was not impressed at all.

You know how the stickers they show seems to bulge out a bit? As if they were made of a harder plastic? Well, they are not, they are made of a fairly plain vinyl material and the "bulged" look on the site must be a graphic "emboss" effect on photoshop because I my stickers do not look like the ones on their site.

Peeling one of and sticking it to my keyboard did not seem very good either. The glue seemed too weak. Not sure, maybe I got a bum set?

In contrast, I bought a different set from another company which did hold up nicely and felt/looked way better than the ones from "editorskeys".

If I am not happy with the one's I am making I won't be selling them, rest assured of that!

If I am not happy with the one's I am making I won't be selling them, rest assured of that!

so how are they looking? any idea when they are going to be ready?

I am really pumped about this. I put a whole lot of work into pretty much having to REDO the work I did in Photoshop but now in Illustrator.

Finding the right people to work with and keeping the cost reasonable has also been a challenge.

When I get this keys I will try to test them as quickly and throughly as possible so that I can put a final order for the sets that I will be giving out as tests and selling to the first few people via my website and eBay.

I would like to inquire for 5 people from this forum/post who have been following this ordeal and use a windows computer to hit me up with their info so that I may send them the product once its done. I will use their feedback for refining it for the second production run.

Thanks for keeping me on my toes. :)

hey guys, thanks for the feedback!
Odyssey92, the product would be for permanent use. Once you remove it becomes less tacky to the surface and attempting removal after the sticker has been "set" for days it can potentially damage the sticker as you try to peel it with your nail, so removing is not recommended and for most people that DJ with their laptop is also not necessary.

The only way to make a product that can be removed is to make a plastic cover as it has been done for the macs, but creating a cover for hundreds of laptop models would be impossible and not feasible since demand is not that high. MAC users have standard keyboards so they can produce a few different cover styles and be done, but for Windows machines its not that simple.

DURABILITY:
The product will have instructions on how to apply, so as long as you follow the instructions the stickers should adhere to the keys and stay there for a long time. I have spent a lot of time using stickers of various types and on a few laptops trying to see what works best.

COLORS:
The stickers were designed with the best possible combination of colors and shapes to improve visibility and reaction time specially in dark DJ Booths (if you have suggestions, please pass them on!). However for very dark booths I still recommend carrying a small USB LED snake light (cheap and helpful).

Glow in the dark stickers will be too expensive to produce but I keep looking for a way to make them that will be feasible for all of us.

Hey Dax, thanks for that bit of info.

I will be glad to include you!

The stickers that I had up and that you are currently using ARE a bit wider than they should be for ANY notebook and this was a design problem of mine since the beginning. I have looked at some very small DELL notebooks and tried to make sure that these will fit even those. The difference in key sizes were not that big to my surprise!

Of course with so much text and graphics on each sticker I have had to make a balanced choice on size so I left them about 15/32" wide. This should help you a lot DAX.

This stickers will be able to fit standard keyboard keys so you can get one for work at home on your desktop as well... ;)

Once we have a few users reporting their results back to me I will be looking for people that may want to sell them, so that's just a bit ahead in the future.

Got great news guys!!!

The test samples I received look and feel great!
The same as the best ones I have seen out there and better than many of the pro options sold on the web for other programs!

I am going to give them a test run all this week, yet I am confident that they will be good in terms of adhesive strength and such (the part I was really concerned about). I got them to put a clear coat on them to make them moisture/sweat/oil proof so they are nice and shinny and should remain that way, free of scratches, etc!

Dax, the size and cut is unbelievably accurate to my design (we are talking fractions of an inch accurate) and that was the biggest hurdle.

BuddyLove, the die cut is really nice. Forget cutting by hand or messing around with double sided tape or label paper! These things are ready to stick!!!

Now its time to give the design some final touches (hopefully this week) and send them to print. I say in two weeks or so I should have the finished product, etc.

Just FYI

PS: For the GLOW in THE DARK guys - the only idea I have been able to come up with is a design that will be mostly black and white with text in white and all the important symbols in white, no clear coating on top. This will allow a USB snake light with a UV LED to make them glow.

Cons are that you have the extra cost of a UV LED snake light, may or may not be too hard to find...

Buddylove, so I tried peeling off a key and then just re-applying it. Except for the small damage to the corner that I picked with my nail, the glue did not seem to care. I am trying to peel it again right now and its just as it was the first time.

Not bad!

A test of stickers on a keyboard with "dirty/oily" keys has been excellent. The adhesive is kicking ass.

Mr. BuddyLove, I have been trying to describe all through this thread that the stickers will NOT damage or leave marks on your precious keyboard(s). :)

We all have to consider selling our laptops at one point or another, and having a product that is PERMANENT would not fly with you or me! No worries about your warranty, just take the stickers off and put them back on the sheet. Later you can try sticking them back on (just know that they *could* come off since the adhesive becomes weaker every time that you peel them).

I designed the keys with the smallest keys in mind and worked with standard size laptop keyboards just to make sure I got it right.

What you are seeing is not a "to-scale" picture, so if you are printing out this sample you are not going to get accurate results. Also, the buttons you see have a light grey line, that grey line actually marks the the edge of the sticker itself, not the colored boundary that follows.

Me think u should be just fine... ;)

Hello everyone, thanks for following this thread up this point and for giving me your feedback. I just wanted to update the thread by letting you know that I am finally able to accept payments if you want to buy the finally completed SHORT-KUTS for ScratchLIVE keyboard overlay sticker set (ENGLISH / QWERTY for now).
I have been working on this little project of mine for weeks now, and I am amazed as to how much time and work it takes to make something as small as this come to fruition finally. Thanks again for your patience.

The website is the last detail we are working on so that anybody can purchase anytime with Credit Card or Paypal. But that's going to take probably another week, so I figured I would hit up my SSL Forum DJ's exclusively for a special "pre-release" deal on eBAY.

Since I just signed up for an eBay account eBay will not allow me to sell with BUY IT NOW until I have made over 10 sells, so I am sorry for this temporary inconvenience. However to get over this hump quickly I am adding my first 10 discounted SHORT-KUTS listings on eBay for ($19.99 + S/H!!!).

Once those 10 sets are gone I still want to save the forum members $5 off per SHORT-KUTS set ordered during the month of may 2008, so if you don't get a hold of a set for $19.99 you will still get yours for $24.99 + S/H instead of $29.99 + S/H (the standard price that we'll be using on the website and everywhere after May 2008). If you buy more than one, shipping is FREE for the additional sets no matter when and no matter what.

For the next week or so I will be monitoring my ebay account closely so that I can make NEW SHORT-KUTS listings available to the first 10 people for $19.99 (3 day listings). If you can't find an item that is free of bids, just email me to short-kuts@djbis.com or call me 1-888-99DJBIS and tell me to add another one! I'll get them up right away!

After I sell 10 of them I should be able to sell with BUY IT NOW and avoid all this hassle.

Thank you everyone, send me a private message if you have questions!

I am adding (5) 3 day items for now, I will add more as soon as people bid on those 3.

SHORT-KUTS INFO:

The package includes:

• Full SHORT-KUTS keyboard sticker set.
• Applicator Tool (specifically designed to easily and accurately apply SHORT-KUTS to each keyboard button).
• Instruction Sheet and Tips for application and use of your new SHORT-KUTS product.
• Keyboard preparation cleaning wipe to rid of unwanted oil and chemicals on your keyboard buttons.
• 1 small and 1 large bumper sticker for your Laptop/Computer/Car/Fridge/Girlfriend, get creative! :)

SHORT-KUTS makes using Serato ScratchLIVE (SSL) with a keyboard easy, quick and fun!
If you are just starting with Serato ScratchLIVE and/or are not used to using keyboard shortcuts to command SSL while DJing, then SHORT-KUTS is about to change the way you play!
If you are a seasoned pro with SSL and depend on its RELATIVE and INTERNAL mode features to play to the masses, then you too are about to harness the full power of your keyboard!

Features in brief:

Carefully color coded so that you can access commands quickly and easily, even dark environments (nightclubs and obscure DJ booths).

Symbology that speaks clearly to new and expert DJ's alike. Pictures convey ideas clearly and faster than text, that's why SHORT-KUTS combine the power of symbols and color to deliver results when you need it most! And their installed look is a cool head turning addition to your keyboard.

Durable Feel and Design that is easy to apply thanks to our free add-on application tool which makes applying each button's sticker a snap! SHORT-KUTS are made with carefully selected materials to extend durability of each sticker's surface against scratches, water, oil, chemicals and other abuses. It's adhesive base has proven to exceed expectations and longevity in various keyboards and under abusive conditions. Your SHORT-KUTS set should last years if applied and maintained correctly, yet if you decide to remove the product carefully, it will come off without damaging the keys or leaving permanent trace.

Heat rises and for those using laptops (specially those without fans) a way to exhaust the heat is absolutely necessary. SHORT-KUTS lets you cook up the beats without frying your laptop unlike some keyboard products that are designed to lock heat inside your notebook potentially causing embarrassing and sometimes catastrophic situations during a performance.

These are just some of the reasons why SHORT-KUTS are a great upgrade for the professional and/or start-up DJ.

The most marked benefits for seasoned pro's using SHORT-KUTS is a sharp reduction in reaction time when needing to access program features via the keyboard. For beginners, the benefits are twice as numerous since they are learning the most frequently used SSL commands via the keyboard without heavy memorization or carrying a cheat-sheet! You can get to work quickly and efficiently at the club without worrying about trying to remember what key combinations do what-when and in addition to that trying to read the small text on the keyboard and associating the characters on each key with the SSL function assignments.

Enjoy!

Enjoy!
hats off to you DJ BIS! nice work :)

PS: Do not outbid the other user, as these 10 "auctions" are just to get started. See ordeal description above. :) Thanks!

To our forum friends from the UK. Details are pretty straight forward. Go to the bottom of the eBay listings and from the country drop down options select your country.

Then select your shipping carrier. Done.

If you have any other questions, just let me know.

The listings should appear in a few hours at most, check this page: myworld.ebay.com

Again these are 3 day auctions that I to put because I am not yet allowed to do "Buy It Now" on eBay. Only SSL Forum people get these. Please do not try to outbid the first bidder. Its a first come first served situation for each one of the 10 listings.

Sorry for all the confusion.

I've used keyboard-protectors that cover the entire keyboard on both a G4 Powerbook and on a Core2Duo MacBook, and having the cover on or off seems to make absolutely no difference in operating temperature. The Apple laptops vent out the back (under the screen), not through the keyboard. Maybe with some PC laptops there's validity to the issue...I've seen some with what appeared to be very poorly-concieved ventilation schemes.

Agreed. Any laptop can suffer heating problems, I just feel as though adding a layer of rubber insulation to the keyboard does not help the problem.

The rubber products do offer other benefits, so it's a tough call.

I am adding 5 more of the bids at the reduced price $24.99 (as described a few posts above) for anybody who wants to get them. I will try to monitor them and end them early as soon as you bid so that nobody tries to bump up the price on you.

Hey John, sorry you think so. The whole thing is actually much more expensive and involved than what you think, and what I charge has nothing to do with any kind of production costs alone. For a long long time I did my own DIY sets and helped people get their own for free, its very frustrating, but you are welcome to try it, maybe you will understand after you go through that...

I got tired of doing it so I developed and tested these for myself and for anybody else that wants them.

yea!! those L/R arrows barely made it. but i wraped them around the side also just like the esc key. though the material (vinyl i think?) & glue of the stickers seem to adhere & mold verry well to the keys. so i dont think it will be a problem of them coming off anytime soon! anyways if they do at some point come off (witch i dont think will happen) those stickers a the less useless to me. my main concern was the major keys themself. anyways thanks agian for a great quality product and awsome design. will use them proudly :)
i was thinking i dont know how much this cost you to make per sheet. but if its cost effective i think for the money those who order should get two sheets??
the reason i say this is that say someone some how screws on of the stickers up by trying to place them (not saying it happened to me) lol they have a extra one to replace. or if someone uses two seprate keyboards for use (one lappy & a usb external keybord connected at the same time) like i do will have both keyboards avalible. just a thought!!

BuddyLove, I would love to throw in a few free sets per user, but as you have guessed it, it would not be feasible in the end.
That's why I spent a lot of time writing the instructions and I am in the process of making a quick video tutorial, to make it easy for people to apply them.

pretty amazing that you can mess up a "dumb sticker" that bad eh?

It has happened to me a couple of times already, specially with the F-Keys, I would stick them on the wrong buttons (Read my TIPS section at the bottom of the instructions sheet...) ;0)

If you or anybody else has a problem or made a mistake all they have to do is email me or call me and given the specific situation I will take care of them.

So no sweat in that regard.

Yeah man. I usually pick a side on all the keys (since I am right handed I pick the left side and top of each key) and then I just lay the sticker down. When they are all in the same position they tend to look better than if you try to get them straight up in the "center" of the key...

Just to let you know bis Yes!!! Extreamly helpful if i would of used my fingas i think it woud have looked like shit!! i woludnt be able to place them properly. if i would have used tweesers i think i would have fucked up the stickers. so yes the aplicator was verry useful. only thing though towards the middle my aplicator started splitting not the top side where you grab the stickers but the bottom but it was all good. only thing i can tell anyone about the aplicator is place your sticker with the app. then w/ your finger hold down the side that dosnt have the applicator and twist your fingers backwards like your turning a car key backwards to get a easy removal of the applicator because somtimes the sticker will stick kinda tough on thwe applicator.

I agree with BuddyLove. The applicator came in very handy. Mine also started to split but was still usable. I found that if I kinda bent it a little (like a pringles chip) I had more control, and it held the applicator together.

and it will save me taking out the remote.to studio's,friends house's and gig's

the great thing about the novation remote is the automap software.

I love the Novation stuff. I gotta get some more use out of it as I bought it and never used it with Ableton like I promised I would.
Here's what my setup looks like in the studio...

I want to add a triggerfinger for live use at the gigs and hopefully create some SHORT-KUTS for that as well.

x-keys are pretty cool. There is a couple of guys in here that use 3 bars, one on top of their mixer and one on each side of the mixer. Pretty mean setup. It keeps them from messing with the keyboard as much, a la "Midi-Pad".

I tried to search it scratchlive.net but could not find the post where they put up their photos. I would be willing to try them but I don't like that they still have that keyboard feel. I figured for that I might as well get a Midi-Pad, specially when you are hitting cue points fast and what not.

Just got mine, quality shit.

Couple things I had small problems with, first off a good amount of the stickers came off the paper (including the wax backer) instead of lifting off; but if you aren't totally retarded its easy to get them off.

Also, my laptop is pretty small, I think its an ultra-portable? or something?

None of the F-keys fit, or any of the top row, esc, del, etc.

Also my right shift is a standard size key and not wide, so that didnt happen. I cut the ones to size that I needed and just didnt stick on del and another couple of them..... pics!

Geeth, thank you for the great photos!

This is the second report I receive of the F-keys giving problems.
I am going to address the issue by creating a second row of extra small F-Keys and also two extra small SHIFT keys (You could not put one on the right side).

As far as peeling, its important to roll the sheet from under the sticker, any attempt to "peel" or make the sticker pop up with your nail will make things 10 times harder for you and could damage the material.

Were you able to use the applicator?

PS: I have a video and small photo tutorial coming up soon that will show how to peel the SHORT-KUTS from the sheet and how to apply them the easy way.

Thank you for your feedback Geeth.

I did roll it, I followed the directions, it didnt happen on all of them, but about 25%. Like I said it was no huge problem, i was able to use my thumb(not my nail) to get the edge off. I doubt there's any way you could improve it; I was just pointing it out.

Yeah L/R were too big too, I couldnt cut them as they had a picture all the way across the sticker, but I think they are ok for now.

Hey Rob, you gonna have to double check it ma man!!! I am about 66% sure that every package shipped with two of them... SIKE! LOL I am 100% Sure!!!

Check again as they can get stuck to the very bottom of the packaging, if they are missing, I can mail you the pads, cause the cleaning of the keyboard is important man, and I would not recommend using other chemicals.

Great to see the dark shots on a lit keyboard, as I expected it does not look too good.

Did you say that the lights can be turned off? Not that you would/should, but just curious.

Even with a slight bend in the sticker sheet when they arrived (because of customs/Canada post - not the packaging)did not effect the application or final outcome.

I am hoping to be able to finalize everything for that version in the next couple of weeks. Sorry for the delay.

The English version has helped us sort out a few kinks so hopefully in a few weeks we will put out the German version and the french version with updates.

Thanks for showing interest!

Glad to hear that they worked even after mishandling.
I package them in the stiffest package I can find to keep it from bending and I make sure that I put a big label that says to NO BEND, but I guess they ignore that.

I love the way your F-Keys look man!

Yes Ronge, actually, you will get the latest revision which we released earlier this week.

For Everybody...

What's NEW:

• New protective layer that makes SHORT-KUTS™ easier to view in bright environments (well lit DJ booths/outdoor events, etc).

• Added various OPTIONAL buttons for keyboards that have smaller buttons (some HP's, etc). You can use bigger buttons or smaller buttons depending on your type of keyboard.

• Made some color changes on a few key buttons which makes working with them faster and easier. Again, the idea here is to make operating the keyboard the least mentally draining as possible.

For the glow in the dark fans, I am working on a special set that may still be able to retain the colors we use on the normal SHORT-KUTS but with the GLOW on each color. This would be huge, but there are still a few challenges we need to overcome. In order to have them be 100% roadworthy.

Let your friends know about SHORT-KUTS™, people are raving about them on my eBay feedback...

feedback.ebay.com

I received lots of emails as well with great feedback from both experts and beginners that are LOVING the product. Thankfully EVERY single DJ has said something positive and that is rare for a NEW product/concept. So just imagine, from here on it will only get better. I assure you. :)

Well, I stalled out while working on the AZERTY/QWERTZ version because of all of my DJ travel and work. Yet we are still on top of our new refined SHORT-KUTS™ shipments/orders for QWERTY keyboards. I could not be happier with the feedback people have sent me.

I am personally stoked about the latest change to the product which involves the new protective layer which keeps daylight or artificial light from reflecting off the keys. I played a bunch of outdoor events during the last two weeks and in heavy lit conditions the SHORT-KUTS™ look and feel better than the first generation.

As I described on the last post, I changed some key colors to make it easier and faster to recognize some keys which in turn makes DJing w/ SSL even more user friendly I think. I am all about the details :)

We have a LOT of really cool stuff coming about soon and I'll post it here when its ready.

Ronge: Glad you liked it man! Which optional keys did you use? Big or small? I'd love to see some pics of course!

Like I said before, I am a stickler/perfectionist. I love designing anything, but just like my flyers, anything I do has to be on point or else is not worth even putting out there. From the materials, to the actual design and the look of the product, to the shipment time (we are all DJ's and we need our shit YESTERDAY, lol).

The other thing that takes a while to find out is durability... will your SHORT-KUTS last if you use them every day? In the heat? In the cold? In the sun? After a year? After two years? Will they come off without ruining your keyboard? All these "simple" questions take TIME to be resolved. I took my time and I stand behind the product... :)

Check out the feedback: myworld.ebay.com!

PS: The new SHORT-KUTS™ website is almost done. We'll be working special referral deals for anybody that has a site and would like to help us push the product. You could do it even with your Myspace! Holla!

Quick Update for the shortcut aficionado in here...

The update to SHORT-KUTS for SSL V.1.8.2 has been done and is now shipping. A quick mistake somebody found was taken care of and the BROWSER ZOOM feature has been implemented into SHORT-KUTS by means of the ORANGE MAGNIFYING glass on the +/- buttons that are normally used to zoom in and out of the waveform.

For a while as well DJ's have been receiving the NON-Glare version of SHORT-KUTS. We upgraded to a better protective coating which is just as tough as the shiny one, but its glare free!

Reviews are still at 100% positive. 0 complaints. 0 negative feedback.

Ofcourse this would only be useful for the new mac book pro's.
Let me know what you think.

I was just thinking the same. If the stickers were laid out with full transparency just where the light is, and the other info around it... (This would probably solve issues for european keyboards too.)

Im using a KB cover now, but would probably switch if you made this possible.

Older Macbook Pro's have backlit keyboards too. At least mine has...

Thanks guys. We have given that idea some serious thought but we run into issues like:

• Layout of the graphics around the MAC's key character presents a real challenge and would make it so that only very little info be displayed on the sticker.

• Choice of materials available for this translucent application are not durable enough for what we do.

among others.

We have another idea that we might look into which will be for MACs only, and will not involve stickers, so we'll see.

Thanks for the input!
